Gothenburg/Goteborg
We would be interested in any advice on accomodation for three days in June preferably close to the train station/downtown area. Preference is for 4 - 5 stars and large beds, but not something a bit different to the SAS hotels there. Thank you for your assistance.

What is you objection to the Radisson SAS?
It is superbly located just across from the central train station, has large beds (and rooms) and is a very short walk from the Nordstan mall and other good shopping.

Yes but for me quality of life encompasses all things. I am not a herd mentality person - some people are of course more comfortable with brand names and large buffet breakfast environments. Maybe I had too much of that when I was younger -LOL. I guess I am looking for a typical Rome style four star hotel with good beds and an unbranded atmosphere in Goteborg.

I like Hotel Eggers.
http://www.hoteleggers.se/
I have no clue how many stars it has, but it is a historic building, nice staff, decent food, right on the main square.
(Some people might think the main square a minus point since it's the meeting point for multiple tram lines, but trams = the continent to me, and I love watching them criss-cross each other late into the night).

The SAS Radisson is right across from the Train station and shopping center. It is probably more "american" than the other hotels in the city centre. The decor is modern with oranges and what I think of as 70's colors, and others consider very hip. The Volvo Car program uses the SAS Radisson in its OverSeas Delivery program (where you buy the car in the US, pick it up in GOT, use it for vacation in Europe and then ship it back to the US.)
The main city centre is not large and is very walkable.
The Scandic hotel chain has several hotels in the city centre. The Scandic Europa http://www.scandichotels.com/en/Hote...candic-Europa/
is right next to Nordstan and across from the SAS Radisson.
First Hotel G is very new and was built over the train station http://www.firsthotels.com/en/our-ho...First-Hotel-G/
A little more expensive but nicer is the Elite Park Avenue
http://www.elite.se/sv/node/421 on Kungsportsavenyn otherwise known as "the Avenue"
or it's still more expensive sister hotel Elite Plaza http://www.elite.se/
Something important to know is that the doors on the hotel rooms in Sweden open out, rather than in. Most do not have double locks or chains like US hotels.

Thank you for your detailed response meath1. I got in touch with some old friends at Volvo. The feedback I received is that they all use the Gothia Towers nowadays so I have booked a room there. Any advice and travel scerets on Goteborg/Gothenburg would be helpful as Goteborg/Gothenburg does not receive much coverage on this Forum.
