Folks,

Every cloud has a silver lining ! My stock portfolio has taken a beating due to the current oil crisis. But it has also sunk the Russian Ruble and the Norwegian Crown currencies against the dollar. I had wanted to visit these two countries along with my family.

Is next April a good time to visit assuming the dollar remains at these levels ?

Are there any other countries where the currency has fallen sharply against the dollar recently due to the oil crisis ?

Norway is very expensive even after the fall. Russia could be anywhere by then.

I'd look at May/June just to ensure Snow had gone in Norway

There is no Oil crisis (I've lived through a few and they relate to demand > supply), now we have an excess of Oil. As someone very wise once said, "the stone age didn't end because they ran out of stone"

Given that Russia, at least, is prepared to hoick its interest rates up to get the exchange rate up again, who knows if it will? These things depend on so many variable factors.

Other exciting destinations that are doubtless feeling the pinch from low oil prices - Angola, Libya and Venezuela.

For an American the prizes in Norway has gone down from "totally incredibly expensive" to "incredibly expensive". The Norwegian economy is still very strong and most things are expensive there. I would say late May or June is a better time to visit Norway and most parts of Russia (like Moscow and St.Petersburg). Late June is of course unique because of "the white nights" when it never gets dark
