Good site for Paris events?

We're planning a trip to Paris in October and would love to find out about things going on while we'll be there. Not JUST things that we might want to do but also any big fashion shows or protests or strikes things that might affect our travel plans and ability to see things we want to see.

We're also hoping to go to London during the trip, so if you know a good site w/ the same information for London, pass it on!

Thanks!

I don t think London has them. Our big fashion shows affect big fashion houses and streets up to 20 yards away: they close no roads. This is true too of the London Film Festival from 20 October to 4 November: Leicester Square may be very crowded at times, but the main venue on the South Bank at the far end of Waterloo Bridge takes the event in its stride. Protests happen usually on Trafalgar Square and sometimes near Parliament, but again traffic flows on, and in any case knows yet the big issues of October. Nor do we know strike topics that month, if any, and only a few strikes, chiefly in transport services, affect London widely.

Events in November, each with limited effect on traffic, include the Lord Mayors Show around the old City, the State Opening of Parliament around Westminster, and switching on Christmas lights in shopping streets of the West End. I can think of nothing similar in October.

How would you answer if I asked this of New York or Washington in October ?

Anyway, please just come, and welcome.

I think the best overall site for Paris events is simply the events section on the Paris Tourist Office web site (www.paris-touristoffice.com)

I don't think they would ever include info on protests on there, which are not usually a big deal and happen all the time. There are many strikes all the time, also. Transportation web sites usually have info on strikes for their own concerns, like www.ratp.fr or www.sncf.com

There used to be a good website on French strikes, but it's gone now.

I just noticed that I gave you the same site for London twice. This is what the second one should be:

http://www.visitlondon.com/html/inde...ssid=&hf=3

Sorry about that!

The address for that website is www.metropoleparis.com
It does have a calendar of events, mostly cultural. It is actually a "club" that meets everythursday in Paris at La Corona. My husband and I went to a "meeting" a couple of years ago.

Unfortunately, I never found a web site that was as comprehensive as the Pariscope which you can purchase from a newsstand for 40 Euro cents. That means you have to wait until you get there to see all the events.

Yup, the 'Scene' pages on

http://www.metropoleparis.com/

are the best. Click through on his ads or buy something from the guy . . . the site is his labor of love.

Good question BLN. I was wondering much the same thing myself. In regard to fashion shows, if you go to the website of the store, you can very often pick up their calendar of events. (This is for Paris but I'm sure London dept. stores provide much the same kind of info.)

Otherwise, I'm relying on Pariscope, buying a copy when we get there. We had reserved seats for a concert in Paris for the end of September, but when I checked the website yesterday, the concert had been cancelled! I guess I will play it by ear and rely on the advice of the concierge for ideas about current events to attend.
