hortb: I maybe will sound a bit rude - and you are new here so I don't want to scare you off. But in the last 20 minutes you have posted six 1-sentence threads/questions.
Each of them could receive MANY answers if we had any idea what your overall plans are.
You have asked what you "must" see in 1 day in London. what pubs not to miss, the best hotel in Brussels, cheap sightseeing tours in European cities ( WHICH cities? ) and some others.
You will have better luck if you tell us where you are going, when, for how long, what sorts of things you enjoy, etc.
Many fodorites will be able to help you - but you need to help us do it . . . . .

My apologies...I am new and under pressure with our trip to London and Brussels coming up in two weeks. I just came upon this sight and thought it was a great way to access opinions and recommendations quickly.
Four adults are traveling from US in August to London for 1 1/2 days then taking the Eurostar to Brussels for two nights then a train to Frankfurt where we will visit with our German family for one week then fly home. We have never been to either location. I am very apreciative of your advice and guidance. Thank you.

That is much better
OK - you have short visits in Brussels and in London. I can't help very much w/ Brussels -- but other fodorites can.
In London, since you only have 1.5 days you really can't see all that much. If none of you have been to London before you should probably take one of the hop-on-hop-off bus tours. There are two companies -- The Original, and the Big Bus. Both cost about the same and the tickets are good for 24 hours. So you can take a bit of the tour, get off to see something that interests you like the Tower of London, or a museum or St Paul's or many other places. Then you can get back on another bus after you'ver looked around. The bus tour also includes a short river cruise that would be a a lot of fun.
Where are you staying in London?

County Hall is a TERRIFIC location. Are you taking the Eurostar from London -- if so you are VERY close to Waterloo station.
Big Ben is right across the river, and you will be walking distance from Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.

Oh, good. That sounds like we can see a few things by walking. The hop-on & off bus tour sounds good, too. Thanks you. Someone suggested using the "Tube" to get around from point to point. What are your thoughts?

Sure - the tube is fine. BUT you only have about 36 hours so you probably won't need to take too many tube trips.
If you take the bus tour, walk across the river to Westminster Abbey and/or the Palace and parks, walk over to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, and walk along the south bank from the hotel to the Globe and/or Tate Modern - you will have totally filled 1 1/2 days w/o ever getting on the tube.

For London, evanevans.co.uk is a great tour operator for day, 1/2 day tours in and around London as well as the outlying cities.
If you have time you should try fitting in a guided walk or two...www.walks.com. Histric and informative.

Sorry for typo, "historic". And in Belgium if you have time you should really try to fit in a trip to Bruge and/or Ghent, just lovely midieval cities.
