Good news about the closing of the Mauritshuis Museum (The Hague)in April

Jump to last reply

I discovered in a New York Times article yesterday that the Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery will close in April for a major expansion and renovation. I was upset because I'm going to Amsterdam in May and planned a day trip to the Hague to visit the Mauritshuis.

But I learned that 70 paintings from the Mauritshuis will go on display in a wing of the Gemeentemuseum in the Hague from April 28 of this year through mid-2014, including Vermeer's "View of Delft." Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" will be at the Gemeentemuseum from April 28 to May 28 before traveling to Japan and the U.S.

(By the way, the Frick museum in New York will have several Mauritshuis masterpieces this fall in a major exhibition on the Dutch Golden Age.)
