Price will depend on dates as well as location. I am not sure you could find one at the low end of your range, but it's worth cheking. It is important to know whther you have a long walk from the vaporetti stop if you choose that waay to get your luggage to the hotel...could be a long walk with luggage and could involve a few steps. Water Taxi's may get you closer, but are way more expensive.

bobthenavigator, have you stayed at Corte Grimani? I just learned that the hotel we most often stay at in Venice is filled during the time we will be there so I'm casting about for others and noted Corte Grimani. I usually prefer hotel over apartments unlike so many here, but the website for the Corte Grimani looked really nice. Any issues getting luggage to the place or with steps, AC, etc? Good restaurants nearby? Thanks for any intel you can provide.

Julie, WE have not but I have had 2 clients stay there and they loved it. Not far from the Locanda Orseolo and gets good reviews. I like apartments in Venice.

Hotel al Ponte Mocenigo. Their Junior Suite went for 170E a night in July 2010 and when we were there in May 2012 it was not available but I think the price was the same. It's definitely big enough for three people but two of you will be sharing the large bed. The main photo on the above page is that suite (the one with the four poster bed). It was taken from the end of the room which has the single bed/daybed (looks like a sofa only bigger).

It's a short walk from a vaporetto stop (no bridges to cross from that stop either) and a short walk to the Rialto market.

If you wanted, you could even get two rooms totaling around 280 euros, give or take. You won't have a view, really (windows of that suite look onto their small courtyard) but otherwise it's fantastic.

We're waiting for a reply from Palazzetto Pisani (looks like a faded beauty near Accademia on Grand Canal) but if they don't come through I think we'll move on to Corte Grimani. We'll be in Venice after staying 5 nights on Como, hopefully at Varenna in the Du Lac, and then 3 nights on Garda. Hope to finally stay in Torri del Benaco. Looking at Hotel Gardesana there. Have remembered their spot on the boat harbor ever since we first saw the place probably 20 years ago. Gotta love the Italian Lakes.

I'll add my two cents. We enjoyed this place. It had a nice canal view and a bar along the canal below that was quite nice. It's near the train station in a quiet neighborhood.

We stayed here a couple of years ago and loved it. There were 3 single beds in our room, but they were fine (I was a very plus size person then and I slept quite comfortably).

Perfect location in San Polo. 2 minutes to the vaporetto and 15 to Rialto bridge.
