I am seeking restaurant recommendations for a Friday night in Madrid. I guess you would say I am a foodie. and also love wine. Looking for authenticity - maybe a modern take on traditional dishes. Or traditional - but with pride - not tiredness. I also prefer fish, seafood, and poultry to meat. I won't say price is not an object - but it is secondary to the food and experience. It can't be a place you have to reserve months in advance as I am going July 17 or any place that will diss me as a solo female.. Also - I tend to eat between 9 and 10 - would that be OK? I will probably e-mail or call from the US to reserve - in English , as Spanish on the telephone is scary.
Thanks, all.
Jess

bookmarking, as I, too, am a solo female traveler and will be in Madrid the following Friday evening.
You'll have to select your restaurants carefully as a number of the better restaurants close for the summer holidays by the middle of July and don't reopen until the end of August. Some of the best Haute Cuisine Temples (from Maribel's Guides to Madrid and others with great taste) are: La Terraza del Casino, Santceloni, Jockey, Horcher, Goizeko Wellington & Kabuki Wellington.
There is also the excellent restaurant, the Midnight Rose, in the ME Hotel. We had dinner there last week and it was excellent, and fairly inexpensive, about €50/person, with a good bottle of wine. You should be able to book on-line. And yes, they start serving at 9:00 pm and they will not diss you.
I really enjoyed El Cenador del Prado, Calle Prado 4, near the Plaza Santa Ana.
"Combarro" is a Temple of Seafood. Try the chilled wine from Rias Baixas.

Looks great Revulgo and lind of elegant?....what price range are we talking, the site does not specfy prices.
If you're into seafood, La Trainera in the Salamanca district would also be a sure bet. I would have started with a Seafood-soup or a simple platter of grilled prawns and then go for either Rodaballo, Besugo or Lubina; white fish from heaven!

amsdom,
Prices can vary depending on the plates, think of around € 80 per person with wine.
Here's another vote for Cenador del Prado. Beautiful room, and excellent food. They seem to appreciate reservations, so if you can, book ahead. If you go, and if they are offering the 'helado de cerveza' (beer sorbet) for dessert, try it, it's delicious.
