Good Location(s) to be Based for Four Nights in French Alpes

Jump to last reply

We are a couple, 50's/60's, taking a road trip through France in late September. We will have four nights that we'd like to spend in the Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isere areas, exploring the local scenery, food and wine. We are looking for one or two locations to base ourselves for sightseeing. So far, we know we want to see Annecy and Chamonix, but, don't want to stay in either town. We generally prefer to stay in the countryside as opposed to in a city. Does anyone have an idea for one or two areas that are centrally located for Annecy and Chamonix? Are there any other "must sees" in the region?
