Hi there,
we wil be in Paris for 2 nights in September and are wanting a nice, very clean hotel in this area. The hotel we stayed at last time is booked out. We will be there from the 20th September for 2 nights. We are prepared to pay approx 200 or so euro per night.
It is my husband and I who are in our 40's.
Any ideas????
Thanks

Every spring we stay at the Belmont down from the Arc de Triomphe:
http://www.belmont-paris-hotel.com/
It's a quiet hotel off on a side street, serves a great breakfast. It is under your budget so with the euros you save you can enjoy some Laduree macarons a few minutes away on the Champs Elysee!
Hi Chapla,
I will check out the Belmont.
Tell me more about Laduree is it a chocolate shop?
Thanks again
Donna
Oh my-I can't believe you haven't heard of the Laduree macarons! It seems people have gone mad over them! I love the little bags, boxes they com in.They even have a shop at the airport CDG.Here's the link:
http://www.laduree.fr/
Enjoy!
There's a Louis Vuitton shop on the corner of the street you need to turn on to get to the Belmont-easy to remember!
Hi Chapla,
I am waiting for the Belmont to get back to me in regards to vacancies for our trip.
Will check out the Lauduree web site.
Last time we were in Paris we stayed in the same vicinity and found it very handy to everything.
This trip we fly in and out of Copenhagen and had a couple of days to spare so thought we would go back to Paris on the way through. We are coming to Paris from Berlin and arrive early in the morning so will have 2 full days to get to our favourite sights and places.
Prior to this we are doing a cruise from Venice that does Italy Croatia and a few other countries.
Thanks for your help with this.
Any other tips?
Donna
Why are your staying in that area?
I've stayed in that area several times on business, unfortunately.
It seems like the area is like a ghost town at night.
I always stay on the Left Bank, 6th or 7th arrondisement.
If you're on holiday, you will be short of time. This area is close to several of the 'must see' sites.
Thanks Rastaguytoday,
we stayed in this area last time and found plenty to do.
What other hotel do you recommend then?
Hi Magpies,
I've stayed in the Passy area near the AdT and have never found it dull or like a ghost town. I would far rather stay in that part of the 16th than in the 7th. To each his own.
Here is my preferred little hotel:

We used to prefer the Sofitel LeParc on Ave Raymond Poincare by the Place Victor Hugo, but it's now part of the Starwood group and doesn't appeal to us as much.
Hi M,

Can't help with a hotel, but you might like to visit

Have you been to the Parc Monceau?
The http://www.lesartsdecoratifs.fr/english-439/nissim-de-camondo-742/ is right next door.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
FoFoBT I will check out your hotel web site.
As I mentioned before we liked this area last time we were in Paris and found it handy to everything.
Ira I will check out your web sites too.
We have not been to the Parc Monceau.
Will have a look.
Thanks again
Donna
I too have stayed at Hotel Dubois and liked it a lot. Its been a few years and looks to have been renovated since I last stayed. I enjoy this part of Paris as it is close but far enough away from any crowds. The AirFrance shuttle is real close and you have the option of two metro stops. I have actually been thinking of going back for a visit and staying here again.
Well |I am with rastaguy,, its the Champs is a boring area to me,, and seems only handy to shopping and overpriced cafes,, but to each his own. I prefer staying somewhere with a bit more "character" where I can walk to many sites. Look at the www.hoteldaubusson.com/ its lovely, and in a lovely area, walk to Louvre, Orsay, Notre Dame, St Chapelle. Only 1/2 block up from river.
I'm with Rastaguy also - sterile, boring, expensive area, and I do not consider it handy to everything, except expensive American-oriented stuff, but suit yourself. And not all that accessible to the stuff most travelers want to get to. I'm partial to the 7ème, which has a ton of detractors as well, so who knows?

Happy Travels!
Thanks again everyone.
I am madly checking your suggestions.
Will let you know when I have made a booking.
Your help is appreciated.
IMO, there is a vast difference between "near" the AdT and being on the Champs itself.
The part of Passy where we usually stay is an easy stroll from the Arc but it is NOT, as StCirq describes it, sterile and boring and "handy only to American-oriented stuff."
My question is the same as RAsta . it is maybe the most sterile part of Paris to us. Oops, just went up a little and see that St.Cirq used the same adjective so I'm in good company.
ANYwhere else, including the 7th, which everyone disses as being too quiet. BUT SO much more to do, see, be in the middle of.
The last time we were in Paris we stayed at the Hotel Residence Foch. We have been to Paris many times and the Residence Foch is one of our favorite hotels. It is in a lovely neighborhood near the German Embassy. It is a 5-10 minute walk from two metro stations and about a 15 minute walk to the Arc de Triomphe. The owner/manager is delightful and the staff could not have been more helpful. It might be slightly above your price target, but it is worth checking out. Enjoy your trip.
I just checked their website (www.residencefoch.com) and they have some very good deals right now.
Thanks bumper will check it out.
Waiting for Du Bois to get back to me.
We are open to suggestions.
Keep them coming.
Thanks
donna
Hi again,
still waiting for hotels to get back to me.
Many do not have availability for the time we are there.
Thanks for your ideas and suggetsions.
Donna
I like the F. Roosevelt near the Arc of T.
Have agreat trip, Yipper
WHY don't you go to a different part of Paris since you "have been there so many times before". I'm beginning to think --well, whatever. STay where you want. You don't want suggestions.
It's been a few years since we stayed here and it looks like it's been updated... the Hotel Elysées Regencia is very near l'Arc de Triomphe. The address is 41 Avenue Marceau. Hope you find something you like!
http://www.regencia.com/index.php
"You don't want suggestions." Gretchen, that is a VERY unfair slam against the OP. The OP DOES want suggestions -- for an area you don't like.
Why does the OP have to justify his/her area choice to you? You do know that it's the OP's trip, not yours, right? I remember asking here for hotel suggestions in Passy. A bunch of people tried to push me toward hotels in the 18th or in the Marais. Those places are fine for some, but it's not where I like to stay. A few, like you, got quite huffy when I declined their advice to stay in another area.
The OP has thanked those who suggested hotels that met the original brief and is looking into those suggestions.
(by the way, I don't mean you were huffy about my request -- just the OP's in this thread.)
Thanks Trophywife and yipper will check out those possibilities.
Yes FoFoBT we do want suggestions hence the post in the first place. Thank you for your kind comments.
Gretchen, you have obviously not read the post correctly. We have been to Paris once before as I mentioned at the beginning and enjoyed the position as it was close to hop on hop off bus, restaurants, shopping and other sights.
It may not be the part of Paris you like but you failed to give any alternatives. What hotels would you recommend?
Thanks to the posters who have been so helpful.
Donna
I have stayed in this area a few times and all the hotels were good. Hotel Cecilia was the last hotel I stayed at in June, clean and very nice staff, breakfast was included.
La Regence Etoile was a very nice hotel for a budget price.
Splendid Etoile was a lovely hotel, that had a great view if you paid for a corner room looking at the Arch de Triomphe
I quite like this area but have stayed in the St Germain area and also near the Louvre. Paris is very easy to get around no matter where you stay. This is my favourite city in the world. Enjoy
I DID read it correctly, and I did give you alternatives at least by arrondisement. But for specifics, the HOtel Muguet in the 7th is two blocks from two different Metros and has approximately 4 bus lines within a block. We have stayed there 3 or 4 times. Rue Cler market street is a block away. There are literally a dozen really good restaurants within 4 blocks, and good shopping. The OP said they were open to "other" suggestions, but apparently only for that area. It's fine with me. As many have said, transportation is very easy in Paris but I dislike having to always "go" somewhere on the Metro to find the interesting things, especially IF I was there only 2 days.
But a hotel IN that area is the Hotel California on rue Berri. It is where my parents lived in the 20's for a time until their house in Villa Montmorency was ready. I have considered staying there at least for the night on some trips just for the nostalgia. I have their bill for the week of my older sister's 5th birthday, when they had room service and champagne!! Very sweet.
Thanks jaqui13 and Gretchen for your suggestions.
I will have a look at the hotels you discussed.
I am going away for a few days so will get back to my research when I come back.
Donna
Hi everyone,
just thought I would let you know we have booked a Prestige room at the Hotel De Bois.
Some of the other hotels only had vacancies for one of the nights we wanted.
Thanks to everyone for their helpful suggestions and information.
Donna
Good choice and I hope you enjoy your stay! For a choice of distinctly NON-sterile cafes, shops, etc, head down to the Place Victor Hugo and poke around the web of streets surrounding the Place. There is a good artisanal bakery on Ave Raymond Poincare about halfway between the Starwood Renaissance Hotel Le Parc on that street and the Trocadero, same side as the Starwood hotel. (Boulangerie Lesk: Avenue Rayond Poincare, 43.)
If you haven't been yet, try and fit in a visit to the Guimet Asian Arts museum. One of my favourite museums in Paris; I like that it has a good collection of Korean as well as Japanes and Chinese art.
http://www.guimet.fr/fr/
http://asemus.museum/museum/musee-national-des-arts-asiatiques-guimet/ (English)
An easy walk from your hotel.
Thanks FoFoBT,
we will check out the bakery, cafes and shops you mentioned.
Place Victor Hugo sounds good.
Have not been to the Arts museum. Will take a look if we have time.
Thanks again for your help.
