Two couples are planning a one week golf-oriented trip to the Algarve via Lisbon in late May or early June 2013. Does anyone have a suggestion on an upscale, but value driven hotel and location near the ocean? Should we self-cater or seek a package? We want to play five of the best courses at a good rate, and not have to drive overly far each day from a central location in the Algarve.
The hotel, self-catering apartments, and resort choices appear mind boggeling to us.
Thanks in advance, SwissNorsk1

Rent a villa in the central western Algarve. Renting a villa is the only way to see the Algarve.
If you rent in Carvoeiro, you have the Gramacho course and Vale da Pinta (which is a very fun, hilly course with 1000 year old Olive trees). About 30 other courses are within a 1 hour drive as well.
Renting in late May or early June is also very reasonable as high season is in July and August.
