ok..
We would like to take the golden pass from Montreux to interlaken during July when it is crowded and hot. We would like to make sure we will sit where it is not hot, with air condition that works well or with a possibility to open windows.
I land in Geneva airport on 10:00 in the morning. I can see in SBB that from Geneva airport to Montreux there are trains in 11:24, 12:24 and 13:24.
There is regular train from Montreux on 12:44, GOLDEN PASS classic on 13:44 and GOLDEN PASS PANORAMIC on 14:44. I have 4-5 minutes to switch trains in Montreux. We are coming with a luggage and I understood that in first class no storage space for luggage and that windows are little smaller in second class. We will have swiss pass.
Is it reasonable to reserve places in second class for the panoramic train on 14:44 ?
We can decide according to the heat on that day and status of the air condition if to take the regular train on 12:44 or wait for the panoramic on 14:44?
Is there a real difference between second and first class? I would like to reserve for the second becuase of the jass festival so won't left standing the whole way (or wait for another train).
What's your opinion?

Hi bat23,
Whether the air conditioning will be working at all, much less working well, is all a matter of chance really. As a general rule, folks in Switzerland and Germany don't like or use a/c, so when it's working, it is rather gentle.
If it's really sunny and hot, the best thing to do would be to dress cool, and to pull down the window shades so your seats are out of the sun.
Here's a link to the Panoramic cars:

and the Classic cars:

In those trains, you can't open the windows.
If you want to be able to open the windows, you'll need to go on a regular train on this route, not one that's designated as GP. Or find one of the regular cars on the GP trains. However, you won't be able to reserve a seat on one of the cars or the trains that are not GP.
I've never been on a train in Switzerland where there's no space for luggage (well, except maybe the moutain trains going up to the Jungfraujoch), so I'm not sure where you heard that there is no luggage storage in first class.
The biggest difference between 1st and 2nd class is that there are fewer folks in 1st.
Have fun as you plan!

Thanks!
So in case we are "afraid" from being too warm in the carriadge what would you recommand me? Is it possible we won't have any seat witout reservation in the middle of July? Maybe the best approach is not reserving any seat and see what is the waether, how full is the carriadge and if it is too hot then going down in the middle and take another train (with different route). Again, we will have with swiss pass.
I'm not sure if we will manage to get to 12:44 or not (i.e. regular train) but we will for the GOLDEN PASS in 13:44 and 14:44. I wonder what is the best approach for us. What would you do instead of us?
Hi again,
Well, that's a tough question -- I was raised in Saudi Arabia and lived in Florida, so I'm rarely uncomfortably warm. And even when I'm not comfortable (too cold or too hot), generally it's not that difficult to bear up for an hour or two.
I would be more concerned with having reservations during the Jazz Fest than I would be with the heat. If it were me, I would reserve a seat on the 14.44. Even if it is really warm (not truly likely), it will likely cool off once the train gets away from the lake and its bowl -- maybe after the first 45 minutes or an hour. And also -- pull down the shade, and be dressed cool, and you should be able to manage.
Highs in Montreux in July are usually around 20-25 deg C. Yes, on occasion it can be hotter, but the likelihood isn't great.
Have fun!
