Going to Mull and Iona - anyone been there?

We'll be driving from Edinburgh to Oban, and plan to spend a day visiting the islands of Mull and Iona. Any suggetions? Recommendations? Advice? Thanks.

Our tour went to Iona. We also stayed in Oban
and took the ferry to Mull which we crossed
rather rapidly in the coach to make the first
ferry from Mull to Iona. We had lunch in a
little shop facing the water, then toured the
Abbey and the graveyard. There are some nice
shops. When I returned home I learned that a
woman I work with had helped to rebuild the Abbey
when she was a child.

Get the early ferry over to Iona to beat the crowds and experience the peace of the place.
It's worth spending some time walking on the island - there's a very nice beach at the north end and some good walking on the west coast.

We have also been to Iona and Mull. Mull is so peaceful. (At least in May) We actually stayed at a bed and breakfast on the island of Mull.(I don't have there phone number, sorry) However, we stayed at a BB that lies on the shore of Lake Awe halfway between Cladich and Ford. It was so nice there. The people that own this bed and breadkfast used to live on the island of Mull. I can give you there phone number#0866844202. We went from there to Oban, but I can't remember how long of a trip that was.

Mull is wonderful and definitely worth a visit. I hope the rhododendrons are in bloom when you are there, they are so beautiful and abundant. We stayed in a B&B in Dervaig, Ardveg House, but I'm if it's still there. Be sure to visit Duart Castle and Tarosay Castle, and, in addition to Iona, take a boat ride to Staffa and see Fingal's Cave. It's amazing.

I envy you your trip. Our visit to the Western Highlands was the best vacation we ever had. If you go as far as Ullapool, stay at the Ceilidh Place, and think about how close you are to the Arctic Circle!
