I am going to Italy in the end of Oct/beginning of Nov. We are planning on starting our trip in Rome and then heading to see my sister who is going to school in URBINO. I have been doing some research on where Urbino is located, although I cant find much info on traveling there. I am looking to find out if there is a train to there or a train to a nearby city and then take a bus to Urbino? We will be staying in Urbino for a few days and would like to visit cites near there.... Venice and Florence look close on a map, but I am curious to know if anyone has made this trip and what type of transportation was used. Any info would be great! Thanks in advance!!!

Have you looked at www.trenitalia.com to see if there are trains into Urbino?
I have a recommendation for a recent book to get you in the mood for visiting Urbino: "Waking Raphael" by Leslie Forbes. It's a mystery set in Urbino about an art restorer who is working on a Raphael painting. As you may know, Urbino is the birthplace of Raphael.
I will be interested in the answers you get. I superficially looked into how I might get to Urbino from a major airport and it seemed quite difficult to get there by public transportation. I didn't pursue it, though, because I was planning a late winter trip on less than two weeks' notice after taking advantage of a great sale (round trip Newark/Milan $264) and needed to plan something easy.
It might be a good idea to re-post your question with a more precise thread title so that people who actually know about Urbino and how to get there might pick it out as one of the threads they want to open.
I am not 100% positive, but I remember reading on a trip report here that Urbino is not accessible by train, only by bus. Have you tried doing a search?
I will see if I can find some answers...
Ok, its all coming back to me now.
You can take a train to Pesaro, on the coast of Le Marche, and then a bus to Urbino. Trenitalia can give you information on trains to Pesaro. I believe it is the Milan-Bologna-Ancona line. Perhaps it may be nicer to spend a day in Bologna, then take the train to Pesaro and the bus on to Urbino.
There is also bus service from Rome to Urbino; it is a 5 hour journey, but I can't find the SITA site that has a schedule.
Here is thread from Fodors with some information:

Sorry I can't be of more help!
Thanks for the info! I will be doing some more research myself and any other info will be great!!!
Thanks for the info.... I renamed this as ?? on Urbino in hopes of some more replies... On the first one, I didnt put Urbino in the question line!
and here's a link to your newer thread

Hello princesslisa, in that your sister is going to school in Urbino how did she get there? Wouldn't she have knowledge as to what type of transportation there is to Urbino? Best wishes.
Hey Lisa,
how funny, I just got back from Urbino a month ago. I spent the whole summer there studying at the University of Urbino.
There isnt a train station there. You will have to take a train to Pesaro and then a bus to Urbino. Venice and Florence are also not as close as you think. Florence is about a four hour drive with no traffic and Venice 5 or 6. It may seem like a bit of traveling but depending on how long you will be staying in Urbino, I highly reccomend venturing out a bit and taking these trips. They are well worth it. Urbino is a cute and quaint town but there is not much to do.
If you want any restaurant reccomendations or night life reccomendations let me know, but in advance there really isnt much to do there.
