I am going to visit a friend in Magdeburg outside Berlin in July. I am 20 and she is just now graduating from her German high school. I will be there for about 19 days and have no clue what I want to do. I love art and history, but know whe will not want to do anything related to WWII. Will willing take some suggestions as to some fun things for us to do. Thank you so much for all the help.

Trip Ideas

Berlin is a great city to visit. You can see museums and attend the symphony and opera. The Checkpoint Charlie Museum is very good. Take trips to Dresden, Hamelin, Munich, etc. Germany is a wonderful country with lots of friendly people, good food and nice scenery.
lauren- I am sure your friend will offer lots of suggestions. In the meantime, I suggest you start doing some research on the internet starting with the history of Magdeburg which has a fascinating history dating back to 603 through the Reformation and the 30 Years War and the famous (infamous) "Sack of Magdeburg". Also check out the German Tourist Board website at "www.germany-tourism.de". Tons of info and very user friendly. You will only be about 90 minutes from Berlin which is a definite must see. Other cities and towns for day trips would be Goslar, Hannover, Hamelin, Einbeck. Farther afield would be Dresden, Munich, etc. Once you have some direction, repost and we will be happy to help. Expect a wonderful time!
