Going to a Barca game! Best way to go to/from Camp Nou?
Hi all,
Very excited for our upcoming trip to Spain - Barcelona and Madrid!
DH and I have tickets for a Barcelona match at Camp Nou. We will be staying in L'Eixample area between Diagonal and Passeig de Gracia. The game is at 9:00 pm on a Sunday night.
What would be the best way to get to and from the match? I was thinking taxi, especially going there, but thinking it may be virtually impossible to get a cab after the match. It looks like the Metro may be the best way to go, but my map is a little unclear as it sort of "cuts off" right at Camp Nou. It seems like we could take the L5 from Diagonal to Sants-Estacio and switch to L3 to Les Corts?? Is that area fine for walking? I assume the trains will be running after the match at 11:00 pm-midnight or so? Would this be the best way or do any of you have a better recommendation?
Thanks so much!

Particularly on match day, your best bet would definitely be the metro. If memory serves (I must be getting old as I keep saying that more and more) you're right with line three and the Les Corts stop.
You won't need to worry about the area being fine for walking as with eighty thousand odd other souls going in the same direction the worst you can expect is someone treading on the back of of your shoe meaning you have to do that odd shuffle/step/bend thing trying to get it back on...
After the match, it'll be much the same situation in reverse, so I'd say to forget about a taxi, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the experience. It'll be great fun.

Great, thanks for confirming that I am on the right track. I wasn't even really worried about the neighborhood as I figured there would be thousands of folks headed to the game, but since I tend not to worry or pay close attention to where I go, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything big of which I should have been aware.
We were just at the US-Costa Rica match in DC a few days ago and had to bring our car that night - I really regretted that and wish'd we could have used metro!

Use the underground and bearing in mind the political, economic, sporting rivalry between these two clubs take a flak jacket! If you get within shouting distance please throw a little abuse at Ronaldo.

I think I was unclear. On our trip we will be going to visit this cities of Barcelona and Madrid. The Barca match is actually with Zaragosa. We will not be able to catch Real Madrid at all, much less their match-up. Now that would be an awesome game to see!

You're bang on fun4all, and I think it would probably be harder to miss the stadium on match day than find it, if you're within a mile of it.
To back up markrosy, this match is one of the sporting spectacles that everyone should see before they die. You'll have a great time even if it does end up 0-0 (and it possibly will). It'll be a world of difference from US v. Costa Rica
If Ronaldo is playing, rather than throwing a pig's head (which was chucked at Luis Figo a couple of years back during this match) could you smuggle in an entire farm to drop on that smug, little [insert preferred insult here]?

Am I sensing a bit of hostility here re: Ronaldo?? LOL - ha ha!
Yep, no offense meant towards my U.S. team (!), but we have been fortunate to see other teams play before, as well. We saw Chelsea play Milan over the summer and went to a fun Watford v. Southhampton match a few years back. Even without the big fancy names, the local European teams are completely different than watching MLS. At home, we watch and follow the European clubs on TV vs. MLS.

You could be sensing a mild hostility... That 'man' typifies all that is wrong with modern football.
Anyhoo, sounds like you've had a great introduction to live European football (including that trip to Vicarage Road) and you're right, there's nothing on earth quite like a european football match.
For a truly interesting experience you should try to fit in a truly lower league match for a 'proper' experience. Somewhere like Barnet, with their sloping pitch, a man, a dog and a pie forming the crowd, and less skill on display than during the Bush administration. It'd be an unforgettable experience.

" little [insert preferred insult here]?"
many come to mind - my best northern one is......
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=twat
under number 5 or 2 maybe?
Once saw him driving round Windermere in a Ferrari 430 spider - 80 mph in a 30 zone - couldn't throw my pie far enough to land in his car.
Still think Roooooney should have lamped after "the wink".
Any game at Barca is a lifetime experience - v Madrid probably onec in 3 lifetimes! Never had the pleasure yet.

In my house, where Ronaldo is concerned, your link would be considered a compliment.
You could be right. Violence is never the answer, but can sometimes be a response to a question that hasn't been asked.
You're absolutely right. I saw Barcelona against Atletico a few years ago, and whilst it was close but no cigar to the big one, it's still one of the best footballing experiences I've had.

Thanks again!
Follow-up:
Game was a ton of fun - truly a memorable experience. A real thrill. Final score 6-1 Barca which did not make for a close match, but did mean we got to see some amazing skill displayed.
For future Camp Nou visitors, just wanted to let you know that we actually wound up getting on the metro at Diagonal and taking the train directly to the Colleblanc stop. This meant we did not have to change trains so was very simple.
Hope this helps.

mcmv,
Taxi to the Camp Nou is no problem if you're a little early, but you might have to walk the last couple of hundred meters. Metro will be super crowded. Going back after the match is a totally different thing, took us about an hour to try to catch the cloest metro before we gave up because of the crowds, so we ended up in a bar a few hundred meters away and stayed there until it was again possible to get a taxi.
