Going from Heathrow to City Airport in England

What is the best way and how much does it cost to go from Heathrow Airport to City Airport on Monday afternoon?

There's no best way, just least worst. All involve the tube/Docklands Light Railway (fastest and cheapest), or else a prebooked car (most comfortable, especially with luggage, since the tube/DLR connections can involve hoiking bags up steps).

Typically 90-120 mins from getting to the car/tube platform.

They're fully discussed at http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...airport.cfm?13 and http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...on-city.cfm?17

The nub really is: unless you're going to the Excel exhibition centre, what you're really doing is going from, say, LAX to Zurich. It's ALWAYS easier either to fly direct or get a flight at LHR to your final destination

If you can then change your flight so at the very least your onward flight is from Heathrow

As explained above, it is a pretty complicated transfer and takes a very long time. Well, a car service isn't complicated - but would take a LONG time.

It might not even be feasible. How long do you have between flights?

I live by City and it takes 2ish hours to get there from Heathrow (have done this many times). I always tube to Green Park, change to Jubilee, change at Canning Town to DLR to City. There are lifts at Green Park and Canning Town.

So the next question - what can OP do between LHR & LCY as they'll have about 3 hours spare - but also luggage.

I don't see 3 hours to spare. There are 5 1/2 hours between touchdown at LHR and the flight out of LCY. Assuming about 1 hour to clear immigration, collect luggage and get out of LHR (maybe/maybe not, 1 hr is pretty optimistic), 2 hrs to LCY, and about 1 hr check in at LCY. That is 4 hours at a dead run -- could easily be 5 hrs w/o any serious glitches.

I'd forget about any picnics and just get to LCY
