Trip Ideas
Are you going to Venice?
What were you thinking about?
Small souvenirs (animals, small vases, etc) to be placed on a shelf at home and remind you of Venice? 10 to 30 euro.
A large vase or bowl to be a centerpiece or objet d'art--hundreds to thousands of euro.
A complete set of fine wine glasses or martini glasses or drinking glasses?
50-200 euro per glass.
There are also glass bead necklaces and other jewelry, glass statues, paperweights, etc
There are glass stores all over Venice that carry any or all of the above.
The glass may or may not have actually been made in Venice; a lot of imported glass is showing up, especially at the lower end of prices.
True Venetian glass is primarily made on the island of Murano, but it's not necessarily cheaper there. There are factories there with shops attached. There are also free-standing shops that again, may carry locally-made glass, or may carry imports.
I have found a lovely glassmaker from Murano called Mauro Vianello. He has a shop in San Marco. He's so helpful and you know what you're buying from him is authentic, you can watch him making glass in his shop. His website with directions and info is www.glasshandmade.com
