Giving others a hard time on here

I've just discovered this on another forum where I am a member. It'sa private message one member received from another:-

"It would appear that you are the only one allowed by the forum admin to make personal posts. I think you are a absolute***** and typical of the gang of smug socialists that are in charge of education in europe. I hope you commie twat that you have a very nasty accident and only regret not being able to help in that direction."

And the recipient goes on:-

"This follows a post being pulled in which this lovely man gave me instructions for stabbing myself through the eye until I found (after some months) my brain and died."

makes some of the stuff on here seem tame, doesn't it?

That, incidentally, is not a challenge to outdo it

Sometimes here the posts come close to the one you describe.

I disagree with Franco - its pretty tame stuff here. Really more like a third grade shoveling match than a gangland slaying. If you get your feeling hurt here, than you wouldn't last two minutes on so many other boards.

Whilst I hope that Fodor's Forums never end up with comments from posters as is written here as an example by sheila, I am often amazed and somewhat troubled by some of the vitriolic denunciations that often come from these pages. This is "just" a travel forum you guys!!

Repeat after us: This is just a travel forum. This is just a travel forum. This is just a travel forum. I will behave. I will behave.
(Thanks Danielle)

It is pretty telling when people get so rude, hurtful and downright violent to people when they think they are anonymous and can get away with it.
It says a lot about the kind of person who would do that.

Wow Sheila, that is some kind of forum! I would have to have a major large glass of wine to fortify me ;-).

I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!

(Alas, nobody insults with such poetry anymore...which is just the kind of pig-ignorance {etc.})

My dear Sheila,

>you commie t**t that ..<

In the US of A, that is a very bad word; equivalent to "fanny" amongst the Brits.

Sheila, remind me never to post in that forum!!!

I agree that the anonymity of the internet seems to encourage a minority to behave in a way that they would never do if they were speaking to people face to face.

travelwoman, being the sensitive type, I don't know if I can sleep tonight knowing you think I am rude and undiplomatic. However, I'll be brave and try very, very hard.

If I belonged to a forum as rude as the one you belong to, Sheila, I wouldn't advertise it for all the world to see.

Your comments are usually cold and callous if not down right rude.

Private forums can be just as rude and unpleasant as public, from what I have experienced.

Wherever you go, in life or on the web, one is likely to have to deal with rude and obnoxious people. Or just read a newspaper from Europe~
The best part about dealing with people on the internet is you can just avoid them with a little Click~

Hansikday, remember the first part of your recovery is recognizing that you have a problem. It make take quite a while in your case, but don't lose heart, even the grinch and Scrooge changed. There may even be hope for the likes of you!

> Is "twit" okay?<

Definitely. One of my favorite descriptions of those benighted persons who don't agree with my perfectly reasonable views.
