Girona - Tossa de Mar - Barcelona - Girona
Just booked a trip via Ryanair (too cheap to pass up). We are a family of 5 spending the first half in Tossa de Mar to relax and hike (April.) We will then head to Barcelona for the weekend. I am trying to figure out if it is more cost effective to just rent a car for the entire stay, though we don't plan on leaving Costa de Mar or Barcelona so the car is to get us from point A to B, point B to C, and then point C back to A. Or, should we use the bus? I am having the hardest time finding full schedules listed. We would need to get from Girona airport to Tossa de Mar after our 16:45 arrival, but I am only seeing 2 daily departures. I know we can take a bus from Tossa de Mar to Barcelona, and then Barcelona back to Girona airport, but is it worth it?
Another question to factor: do they charge full bus fair for children? I am seeing prices from 8 euro to 15 euro each way for the bus, so x's 5 and we might as well rent a car.

Have a look at this info:

You won't need a car in Barcelona, it's a very walkable city in the main and parking is expensive.

It looks like you're correct, that there are only 2 daily options from the Girona Airport to Tossa de Mar http://www.grupsarbus.com/en-GB/trayectos-girona.html. There is an additional bus from Girona's main train/bus station that leaves at 18:00 for Tossa, but that would be extremely tight for you to make that bus since you'd have to allow time to get from the airport to downtown. There are reduced fares for families, but still you might find it more economical and logistically easier to just rent a car to drive.
But just to be sure, you might want to contact the Girona Tourist office directly. There are several bus companies that operate out of Girona, so maybe they would have the best info regarding getting out to Tossa from the airport. http://www.girona.cat/turisme/eng/index.php
While you're original plans didn't include leaving Tossa while you're staying there, there are some things to explore en route that might make it fun and worth having the car.
Good luck!

Thank you for the responses! Ok, so it is 80 Euro to take the bus from Barcelona back to Girona airport since children pay the full price. What if we take the train from Barcelona to Girona, and then the bus to the airport? Worth it in price and time?

Looks to be about the same in price whether we bus or train. We will probably just rent a car. Now, to find a rental w/o the crazy "return fuel empty" clause. I need Sangria already!
