Giro d'Italia

Jump to last reply

We will be in Umbria within the next few days and were surprised to learn just yesterday that the Giro will be passing through Spello--about two blocks from our apartment--on May 14th. While we haven't following pro cycling for a few years (when the doping scandals seemingly became the norm, not the exception), we are avid cyclists and are excited for the opportunity to witness the race. Anybody out there who has seen the Giro? Any advice?

The previous stage ends in Foligno on the afternoon/evening we are headed to Spello from Panicale. I'm hoping that the impact to traffic coming into Spello will be manageable. While we want to see part of the race, I don't think we'll take the time to travel to Foligno to see either the finish of that stage or the start of the next. We'll likely just try to find a spot in Spello to see them come through town. But we're still mulling our options. Hopefully, the traffic restrictions that day won't last unduly long because we did have plans to explore the area on Saturday.
