Girls trip - Lisbon
Hi.....I'm Alina..I've been dying to visit Lisbon and so I've finally put together a girls trip in July with 5 of my girlfriends. I'm in charge of picking a hotel/apartment for the trip but i'm having trouble figuring out a central place close to the shopping and restaurants...but that's also safe for 6 girls to be staying. From what i gather, from some of the forums I've come across, Chiado seems to be a popular choice. Also any help with must-see places....or popular restaurants would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you take a look at my trip report (just click on my screen name to find it), you can see where we stayed. The area was very central, and perfectly safe - as far as we experienced.
The apartment we had wouldn't be big enough for your group, but the owner had a larger one upstairs that might suit you.

The post title called my attention (that's what titles are for). After blowing nastiness away, I can suggest you to pick up a Lisboa metro (underground) map. There is a station called Baixa-Chiado (at least there was the last time I checked). The station is hyphenated, not just because of multiculturality but because it has 2 ways out, one leads to Baixa on one side and to Chiado (after a series of escalators, you will appreciate onde day) on the other side.
Baixa is the area of town stretching from Rossio (Peter 4th sq) to Terreiro do Paço (Commerce Sq). Is more old school, old world, old everyhing type of place. Great for people watching and street performers. The main pedestrian street is Rua Augusta, which monumental arch gained it's 5 minutes of fame in The Travels of Gulliver (http://pnm-filmes.blogspot.pt/2012/0...iagens-de.html). May be there were 30 seconds of fame, I don't remember correctly. The Arch itself is opened to public (not suitable to people with mobility issues).
Chiado (and neighboring Bairro Alto) is more like Paris' "Rive Gauche", a area of day and night entertainment, bars, fado houses, young people, noise, drunkeness and so on.
The make things short, depends on how old you girls are (I won't display the impoliteness of asking). If you have more then 40, definitely opt for Baixa. Otherwise Chiado or Bairro Alto may be good options.
Either option you made, there is no need of feeling the loss of the other option since both areas have their own pluses and minuses and are few steps away so and you can easily swap between areas.

lobo_mau Thank you for your detailed directions and feedback. We're all in our early to mid 30's....so looking to be around all the hustle bustle of the city. Might harass you again while we're there in case we need further guidance. Thank you!
