Anyone know the easiest way to get from Amsterdam to the Efteling theme park by public transportation? About how long does the trip take? Trying to decide if it would be worth doing a day trip. Thanks!!

There is a journey planner for the Netherlands on www.9292ov.nl.
You can enter your starting address or a railway station. I entered "treinstation" and "Amsterdam Centraal". For the destination, enter "attractie" and "Efteling Kaatsheuvel".
There are frequent connections, by train from Amsterdam to s'Hertogenbosch, then by bus to Efteling. The total journey time is about two hours and the total return (round-trip) fare is about 30 euros.

Geoff, that site is great -- thanks! I had checked the directions on the park's website, but they were very vague and gave no indication of connections or travel time. This is exactly what I was looking for -- going to bookmark that site and use it for our side trip to Antwerp as well. Thanks again.

For Antwerp; there are two trains that go there. The Thalys and the Intercity (IC). The intercity (direction Brussel/Bruxelles) goes about every hour and takes around 2 hours.

The Thalys (direction Paris) goes less regular (and also takes about 2 hours), is more expensive and I believe it is necesarry to make a reservation. The Thalys is a little bit more luxourius.

So my advice would be to take the IC.

Thanks Tommie! Sounds like the IC is the way to go -- for two hours, price beats luxury! We took the IC from Munich to Salzburg last year and it was just fine. Assuming it's similar here.
