Getting Ready to purchase tickets...anyone want to give a final critique?!

DH and I are fixing to buy our plane tickets and reserve apartments for our anniversary this fall! I know the cities aren't the most economical but they were a compromise for both of us

Our food/fun budget is the same that I alloted on our last Europe trip and it was more than enough (plus we now plan to eat breakfast at home!).

Whenever I was given the amount in Euro I calculated USD based on 1.6 Euro/USD (hopefully it won't go higher!). How does it look?? If anyone knows of nicer/cheaper apartments feel free to let me know!

Paris/Vienna/Prague:
October 9th – 21st

LAX – Paris : Prague – LAX: $871/person
Leave LAX @ 08:50 10/9 & Arrive Paris @ 07:20 10/10

Paris – 4 nights (10/10 – 10/14)
• $120/night at apartment = $480
(http://vacationinparis.com/apts/id_100.htm)
• $75 short stay payment

Paris – Vienna: $50/person flight on AirBerlin

Vienna – 3 nights (10/14 – 10/17)
• $88/night at Walkner's apartments Augarten = $264
(http://members.chello.at/walkner/gallerie/) – Apartment B

Vienna – Prague: $80/day rent a car

Prague – 4 nights (10/17 – 10/21)
• $128/night in apartment= $512
(http://www.perfectplaces.com/vacation-rentals/16949.htm)

Other:
• Food/Fun = $1500
• Incidental = $150

TOTAL: $4903

Does the Vienna-Prague car rental cost of $80/day include the drop off fee?

$80 + $230 + $50 (I am being conservative) for fuel. Wouldn't the train be cheaper, even for four?

I have limited experience with European trains so I might not be looking at the right ones...but the ones I was seeing were about $200/person for 2nd Class.

It would cost more and not allow us to see the towns between Vienna & Prague! Let me know if I'm wrong and have just been looking at the wrong thing!

No, it's no where near that much for 2nd class tickets Vienna to Prague. We did it last year. Took the train from Budapest to Vienna and then on arrival at the train station, bought our tickets to Prague. They were 47.5 euro each. It was a very easy trip.

Hi W,

www.railaver.com will sell you a 2cl ticket V/P for $77 pp.

There are 3 direct trains a day.

It will be no more expensive to buy your ticket in Vienna.

Paris – Vienna: $50/person flight on AirBerlin
Don't forget taxes, booking fee etc. which can double the fare

Actually that Paris-Vienna flight is only €1/person and adding taxes gives a total of about €29/person or at today's exchange rate would be about $44 but airberlin charges a fee for using a credit card for payment, so $50/person is about right, give or take a few dollars .
