Getting from Zurich to Gimmelwald
I'm heading from Zurich to Gimmelwald for three days in June and wonder what the best, most cost effective way to get there would be. Train? If so, can someone tell me the logistics? Would a car rental work better? I realize I would have to leave it somewhere as I can't drive all the way to Gimmelwald. Thanks for any advice!

Train is the best way. Trains leave from Zurich to Interlaken several times daily. From Interlaken you take a train to Lauterbrunnen. From there you can take a bus to Stechelberg cable car station at the other end of the valley. The cable car there takes you to Gimmelwald.
Another route from Lauterbrunnen is to take a cable car up to Grutschalp, a wee train to Murren, and then walk downhill 15 minutes to Gimmelwald. This is my preferred route as it allows for some exercise.
If you drive the route, you can park either in Lauterbrunnen or at the Stechelberg cable station.

Hi Guy18,
If you really want something that is cost-effective, then that precludes a rental car.
Not only will you be paying on the rental while it sits in a parking lot, but you'd also be paying for parking -- at Lauterbrunnen, it's 14 chf per day.
Best, really to take public transportation and enjoy the journey!
Have fun as you plan!

No need for advance tickets.
This guy describes his favorite hikes in the area and includes trail map:

Similar maps covering hikes in the Grindlewald area can be picked up at train stations and TI kiosks.
Bike rentals are available in Lauterbrunnen (and maybe Murren), several firms offer tandem paragliding, and Trummelbach Falls are worth a look. Visiting the Schilthorn peak or the Jungfraujoch are high on many people's list on a clear day.
