Getting from airport to hotel in Prague

I appears the most recent thread is several years old so time for some more recent advice. We are flying from JFK to PRG and will be arriving the morning of October 31. We normally take public transportation to the airport in most cities, but it looks like there are really no good options. We are staying at the Imperial, in Prague 1 (http://www.hotel-imperial.cz/map_en.htm). The hotel web site says it is in Old Town, though Expedia has it listed in New Town, so I guess it's on the edge. Anyway, I see a taxi or private transfer is about $30.00 and will take approximately 30 minutes. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out if taking the airport bus is a good idea since it won't go to the hotel and we will most likely have to then take another mode to get from the city center to the hotel. Does anyone know how we would get to the hotel from where the airport bus will drop us? And how long the entire journey will take? So far, a taxi or private car is more appealing if it will save a lot of time and hassle but I would like to know all the options.

We took a taxi from our apt to the airport in Prague, as it seemed to be the best option available. I usually take public transport, and did from the train to our apt, but there wasn't any good public transport to the airport for us.

I actually meant we usually take public transport from the airport to the hotel. We normally take a taxi back to the airport, especially if it is a morning flight, except in places like Tokyo, Rome and a few others where there is an express train that connects the airport to the city.

michele, what train did you take from the airport to your apt? I haven't read anything about a train from the airport.

My hotel in Prague arranged for a car to pick me up at the airport. Don't remember the cost, it was a set price, but it seem to be more reliable than a cab and it was. Check with your hotel to see if they offer the same service.

John, I can pre-book a private car from Expedia for about $30 each way. I may do that. At least it will bring us right to the hotel, and we won't have to wait for anyone. We get in at about 10:45 AM and I want to maximize my time and not sit around waiting for others. I guess it's worth the extra cost.

I took a taxi *to* the airport and it was quick and easy. Where does the bus drop you off? We arrived in Prague and dropped our rental car off at the main train station. From there we walked to our apartment, which was a few blocks further toward the river than your hotel. I think a taxi or car service is probably worth the money if you're arriving after an overnight flight.

lincasanova, that car service looks great! I'm going to reserve with them. It works out to about $14 each so really not even all that much more than bothering with public transport. It's really not worth trying to save a few dollars since the savings isn't that much.

Sounds like you're set for your trip, but just in case, I used AAA Radio Taxi twice on my trip, booked online both times. Once was for going to the airport, the other time I was moving from our apartment to a hotel across the river after the friend traveling with me left. Can't remember where/who recommended them--maybe TA Prague forum or perhaps InYourPocket.

Have fun! Prague is touristy but just roll with it. People are there for good reason! Beautiful city.

Just $30 and you're sweating about this? Take the cab.

Deb, I clicked on the link but I don't recall it being the same.

BigRuss, posters like you are the reason the Europe forum has a bad rap and why I don't like posting here. People on other forums talk about the nastiness and snarkiness on this forum. You are a poster boy for that. If you have nothing constructive to add, don't bother.

To everyone else, thank you, I really appreciate your help.

For $28 you can use Mike's Chauffeur Service.

Sorry for the confusion. We arrived in Prague from Vienna on the train. From the train station we took the metro to our apt.

Ah, michele, that makes sense. We're arriving from Vienna by plane. Our flight goes from JFK to VIE to PRG.

I reserved a car round trip from the site that lincasanova and Deb suggested. I realize that the link Deb provided did bring me to the same site, but a different page within the site.

Deb, We may just do the walking tour too. I love walking tours. You see so much more.

We are doing the same, laurieco, as we get in at 11 pm. We're going to do the tour too, great way to get the lay of the land if you take it early in the trip.

I've been to Prague twice; once I flew into Prague, the second time I flew out. Both times I used public transportation and took the same combination of bus and subway (Bus #119 to subway station Dejvická), albeit in opposite directions. The one connection from bus to train is pretty easy, especially if you are used to public transportation in Europe.

If the hotel is within walking distance of the same subway line that originates in Dejvická, I don't see why you wouldn't take it. You can use Google Maps to check public transit routings in Prague.

We took a private car from the airport in Prague to the Imperial Hotel and it did take about 30 minutes. I would do it again as it was easy and dropped us off right at the hotel. I don't remember the price but it wasn't terrible and was so easy compared to looking for public transportation.
