My wife and I are considering a trip to the Greek Islands in September. We are both age 65 and we have some difficulty climbing and we are wondering how difficult it is to get around on Santorini and Mykonos. Some of the photos and descriptions indicate many steep grades and stairs even in the towns. We aren't talking about hikes or mountain climbing - just getting around seeing the sights and going to and from our hotels and transfers.

The stairs and cliffs are on Santorini although you could avoid the stairs by choosing more wisely than we did in Oia (Esperas).
Mykonos Town was rather flat, on the waterfront.
We satyed outside of town, overlooking the water, near a beach, Petassos Beach Club.
If you find a hotel at the top of the cliff on Santorini you don't have to climb a lot of steps. For example, in Fira you can stay at Theoxenia Hotel or Atlantis Hotel and have a great view of the caldera and be within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. In Oia you can stay at Old Oia Houses (Venetian House near the Clock Tower), Museum Spa Hotel, Oia's Sunset Hotel and Aethrio Hotel. These 4 are very centrally situated and there are lots of shops and restaurants close by.
Be very careful choosing accommodation on Santorini, we had incredible views from our room but we also had exactly 100 steps from our room to reception and then another 10 or so to the street. We stayed at hotel Loucas which I'm not recommending, in fact, the opposite, because of your mobility problems.
Almost everywhere in Santorini requires walking and stair steps so take some of the suggestions above seriously and research your hotel location. Mykonos is not so difficult to get around, but you will have uneven paving stones to negotiate on the streets in town. Some of the most beautiful beaches require walking on trails. You'll find the beauty of these islands will make the effort worthwhile!
