Germany/Austria Itinerary Question
I would love some input on my itinerary for Germany/Salzburg at end of September early October
Arrive Friday in Munich at 3:00 pm...light walking and dinner.
Saturday: Stroll the shopping area, Mikes Bike Tourand possibly Oktoberfest for dinner
Sunday: Dachau in the morning, a museum or two in the afternoon in Munich
Monday: Maybe a museum or two in the morning, pick up car and drive to Salzburg, stroll around Salzburg
Tuesday: Sound of Music Tour and some Mozart sites
Wed: Drive to Fussen and Hohenshwangau to visit castles....drive the romantic road with a night stay in Rothenburg
Th: Drive to Oberwessel for 2 night stay in "Castle Hotel"
Fr: Rhine Valley tour
Saturday: Depart for Frankfurt airport.
My Questions are: Should we do Dachau on Monday morning and come back to get our car to allow a full day in Munich on Sunday? How long to allow for castle visits in Fussen/Hohen? Any other input?

We really enjoyed the Mikes Bikes tour - if you want to take a dip in the river (time allotted during the tour - about half our group went in) wear your swimming stuff under your clothes or wear clothes you can swim in and will dry off easily.
If you enjoy science and technology, the Deutches Museum is really good.
When we visited the Ludwig castles, we reserved tickets online ahead of time - there is a administrative fee of about 1,75E per ticket, but it was very worth it. We arrived on a Wednesday at about 9:30 in the morning and the line to buy tickets was already long. All we had to do was go to the Will Call window and had our tickets in 5 minutes. Our tour of Hohenschwangau was at 11 and our tour of Neuschwanstein was at 1, so we were done with the tour by 2. We had lunch there and walked up to the Marienbruke, so we didn't leave until closer to 5.
Not far from there is the Tegelbahn, which has a tram up to the top of a peak. We didn't go up, but others told us the view was really great. There is a summer tobagan run right at the same place - I think 2,50E per ride - really a lot of fun. We don't even have kids and we loved it
