germany vs amsterdam end of November

germany vs amsterdam end of November
Can Amsterdam be seen in just one long day or do we need two? Would you give up time in Germany to head to Amsterdam? we are staying in an apt in Brussels and we don't mind paying to spend the night in hotels or doing the night trains. Suggestions? Any cities that you think we would enjoy are appreciated. We are not shoppers but love to see the sights, cathedrals, castles, etc. I have researched going down the river to see castles and a lot of them were closed -Burg Eltz or they have limited hours and days due to winter. We really were excited about seeing Munich since it is more the Bavaria side of Germany but a lot of you suggested that was just too far to go via train. Would you suggest going back into Lille France. We will be coming out of Paris and we have been to Luxemburg. Thanks for any input you give.

Not sure if you're into brewery tours, but the Heineken tour in Amsterdam is good. THe van Gogh museum is worth checking out as well.
I did night trains when travelling around Europe to save $ and get the most out of the time in the cities, but my sleeps were light and interrupted by chain-smoking old Europeans.

Don;t think yuo can do Amsterdam in one day - but it really depends on what you want to do and see and how early you are willing to get up to catch an early train.
Not sure what the alternative in German is - so can;t compare.
If staying in Brussels I would see Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp - each as a day trip - before Amsterdam or Germany.

Even if you had three days in Amsterdam, you'd have to decide what you want to skip since there is so much there.
With only one day you barely get a sampling, but if that is better than nothing (remember - you can always go back...), then be tough on yourselves and set priorities. If it's Amsterdam itself you're after, the city and its looks and flavors, and you only have a day, don't go to a museum, instead take one or two canal tours and walk a lot.
You can see pictures hanging on walls anywhere in the world, and the same pictures you can see in books at your local library. But the city itself can't be experienced on DVD, it's too unique.
Amsterdam could easily fill a week of your time, not to mention the other nearby targets that some have listed already, plus the many others not mentioned so far.
Germany is so huge that we can't draw a useful comparison here - to get to know all of Germany that's worth knowing, you'd need a year and then some, so what's a day more or less..?
