Planig a trip to germany from Nov 30th to Dec 8 to visit the Christmas Markets in Garmisch / Munich / Rothenburg and Nurnburg . Would like to know the don't miss restaurants of each city. There are 4 of us and we will be looking for a night of good German food, old world atmosphere and entertainment. We will be 3 nights in Garmisch , 2 Nights in Munich and single nights else where. If anyone has any good suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. We have been to Garmisch several times before and always enjoyed Fraundorfers but I have found out that they will be closed until Dec 6th

Too bad about Frauendorfer being closed. I suggest the restaurants at the Partenkirchnerhof. It's arguably the best hotel in town but the restaurants are very reasonable IMO. Great classics. The wintergarden serves its own menu and the menu of the more formal restaurant and we prefer the informality of the place with glass on 3 sides and views of the lovely (hopefully snow filled streets)This is comfortable haute cuisine that is still very affordable.
For lunch I just don't think you can beat the "fast food" at Nordsee. Love that place. We also enjoy the dish Chicken Beauernart at the Weinerwald--a sort of chicken hash with bacon and great fried potatoes.
Sorry my experience in Munich is more limited.
There are several places across the street from Frauendorfer in that area that looked worth exploring.
We loved Peterhof, right on the Marienplatz. Great sausages, house-made mustard and sauerkraut, and a whole lot of fine breads.

For Munich, I like Weisses Brauhaus and Andecher am Dom,both near Marienplatz. Hacker Haus is good too.
Augustinerkeller - I like the restaurant on Landsbergerstrasse but you can also try the Biergarten on Arnulfstrasse.
Try Zum Gulden Stern in Nurnberg. It is supposedly the oldest bratwurst restaurant in Germany (or so they claim).
In Munich try Zum Duernbrau. It id very old and quaint. It is a short walk from the Marienplatz
We love the Augustiner Brewery restaurants in Munich for a very Bavarian meal. One of the restaurants is right beside the Frauen Kirche "Augustiner am Dom", another is the in a celler near the train station and another is on the main pedestrian street that goes from Marienplatz to the train station, a couple of blocks from Marienplatz. Someone else mentioned the Andecher am dom, (same people as the Andechs brewery south of Munich). It has walls covered with the old walls from recycled confessionals (listen carefully for old confessed sins). The Ratskeller under the Neues Rathaus (under the glockenspiel building on Marienplatz) isn't bad.
For fun you might enjoy going to the Hofbrau Bavarian Folk evening with slap dancing, cowbell music, alphorn playing, yodeling and chicken dancing at 7pm on the 3rd floor of the Hofbreau Haus. Good to call ahead with reservations. They have a buffet dinner with the show if you want it but I prefer to just have a beer and wait till I can go to the places I listed above later.
