German trains – am I on the right track?

Jump to last reply

Five of us traveling, beginning next week. Would appreciate your help in determining if we are approaching this correctly. I am assuming I can buy all tickets at station and not in advance.

Frankfurt to Munich (Arrive Frankfurt from Newark; need to get to Munich - I know not ideal).
Take S-Bahn to Frankfurt to Frankfurt Hbf. Then take RMV point to point to Kahl a Main. From there take regional train to Munich, using Bayern ticket. I see RE but also RB—are they both regional?

Munich to Salzburg (return) – Bayern ticket. I purchase return in Salzburg, right?

Munich to Nuremberg and on to Bamberg (one way). Bayern ticket(s). We would like to stop in Nuremberg to tour. Do we buy two Bayern tickets—one to Nuremberg, then a second to Bamberg? Or can we buy one ticket and catch a later train?

Bamberg to Boppard - Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket. Is this correct? We will be traveling on a Saturday.

Boppard to various points on Rhine and Mosel (day trips): Is the Rheinland-Pfalz Land ticket best option?

Boppard to Frankfurt Flughafen. We MUST get the 7:21 RE with no changes. The site shows a 95Euro standard fare for 5 people. Should we reserve seats? Buy ticket in advance? Or does standard fare mean we can show up and buy?

Thanks a bunch!
