Geneva to Zurich need help with planning

Jump to last reply

I plan to arrive in Geneva airport on Sunday Morning at 10:30 AM and have a return flight from Zurich on Thursday Morning at 10:00 AM. I need help with planning my trip - places to stay and see. My tentative plan is:

Leave Geneva on Sunday afternoon on GOLDEN PASS to Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen
Sleep in Lauterbrunnen(Sunday) - Next Day Train to Jungfraujoch and back
Sleep in Lauterbrunnen(Monday) - Next Day See other places around and leave for Lucerne
Sleep in Lucerne (Tuesday) - Boat trip and ????
Sleep in Lucerne (Wednesday)- Next Day Early morning Leave for Zurich Airport

The things I definitely want to do

a) train travel in panoramic cars ( Is Golden Pass a good choice?)
b) Jungfraujoch trip

I need advise from folks in this forum to help me properly plan my trip. Except for my top two choices I don' have any idea what else to see. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes a great plan I think - perfect and yes the Golden Pass is a great way to go to Interlaken - takes a bit longer than the mainline route via Bern but much more the picture of Switzerland etched in your mind's eye I think (Lauterbrunnen and the Jungfraujoch even more awesomely so!) -ppanoramic cars are nice but on this route the beauty is seen right out of the large train windows not necessarily the glass ceiling - not sure all cars have panoramic may be only first class which would cost a lot more - even with a Swiss Pass.

And yes a 4-consecutive-day Swiss Pass may be the key - covers all transportation to Lauterbrunnen and onto Lucerne - pay the relatively little fare from Lucern to Zurich Airport on the 5th day. Swiss pass also gives a discount on Jungfraujoch trains and covers in full the fantastic trip from Lauterbrunnen up to Murren and Gimmelwald and back down via thrilling aerial cableways.

From Interlaken-ost to Lucerne continue on the Golden Pass route via the scenic Brunig Pass to Lucerne. Actually regular trains ply the GP route about hourly so if the GP is not convenient just hop any train - the scenery is obviously exactly the same as both trains roll over the exact same tracks.

Great sources of info on Swiss trains and passes, etc - www.budgeteuropetravel.com; www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.ricksteves.com - check www.sbb.ch - Swiss Railways web site for schedules and sample fares to compare to a pass.
