If you have travel plans for Greece on July 16 you need to re-assess your options. If the strike goes as planned there will be no ferry, metro, taxi, plane or train service on that day. Air Traffic Controllers are included in that strike so that means no planes landing at ATH, either domestic or international.

I don't think the air traffic controllers have announced yet whether they will participate in the general strike, but if they do there will be some flight delays and cancellations. My experience is that most of the time they continue working, or stop only for a few hours.

I hope you're right about the ATCs but they're right at the top of that list of striking transportation services.

Is there anywhere else besides that website where the information is updated?

Lee, go down to the section on Flights. It starts out with: <i>"If air traffic controllers call a strike or work stoppage..."</i> That tells me it hasn't been decided yet. If they decide to participate, details will be added to the air traffic controllers (ATC) section, and airlines will begin to announce cancellations and delays.

For what it's worth, I have been in Athens when ATCs have threatened to strike, and it hasn't gone ahead. This time it could happen, but it's too early to know.

I did see that, that's why I wrote "If the strike goes as planned". I wasn't doubting you, I was just curious if you knew of any other website with updates. I'm thinking Ekathimerini, Athens Times or Phantis might but I'm not sure how current their info is.

The Living in Greece website is the best one I know. The guy who writes it does an amazing job keeping it updated as new information comes in, especially considering he doesn't get paid for it. Last time I was in Athens ATCs had threatened to strike on the day I was due to depart for home. I checked livingingreece.gr almost hourly, and eventually news came through that the strike wouldn't go ahead, so my flight left on time.

What is likely to happen, even if flights go ahead, is that some transport from the airport into central Athens will be disrupted. It's already announced that metro services to/from the airport will be cancelled, but "X" buses will run from 09:00 to 21:00. Sometimes taxi drivers join in the strike, sometimes they don't.

http://strikegr.blogspot.gr is trying to keep up with strikes that are announced, it is only in Greek though.

Greeks are following the media for accurate information.

The livingingreece.gr website has been updated with additional information. Still no announcement by the ATCs, but domestic flights on Jul 16th will be impacted from 12:00 to 17:00 by a Civil Aviation Authority (OSYPA) stoppage. International flights won't be affected unless the ATCs also stop work.

Look for further announcements on the http://livingingreece.gr/strikes/ website. It may well have changed again by the time you read this.
