Hi all, I'm traveling to Rome during the first 2 weeks of January 2017. I'm looking for a short course in gelato. Can anybody recommend something which is not a tourist trap?

There can't possibly be a gelato course that isn't a tourist trap. Making gelato isn't rocket science. No doubt there are courses for serious local artisans, but of course they wouldn't be open to the public.

I don't think cooking courses usually are "tourist traps" as they don't appeal to tourists who seek something easy. I don't even like that term as I don't know what it is supposed to mean.

But of course a course that is in English (which I presume is what you want) is going to be for foreigners, right? Or tourists, if you will, that doesn't make them "traps". Plenty of such courses are good courses, not a rip off. Even Cordon Bleu in Paris, for example, offers some courses to the public.

I have no personal experience but wouldn't be afraid of just reading reviews and booking one, it's only a gelato course, after all--on Viator or Tripadvisor, for example, if you don't get some better ideas.

I have friends who have a gelato shop in California that took a professional course in English but I think it was in Bologna. If you are interested in a professional course and want the info, I can try to get it and post here.
