Gatwick Connect
I read about this online and it appears it may be a solution for us when we are connecting from Virgin to EasyJet in December.
From the write up, it appears that they transfer bags for you. We arrive at 8:30am and are looking to fly out on EasyJet at 16:20. It would be an easier decision if we knew we could have them take care of our luggage in between but I know that EasyJet will not allow check in that far before a flight.
Any insight into how this actually works is appreciated.
We are deciding between this long layover or overnighting at Sofitel Gatwick and spending the day and evening in London, before taking an early flight the next day. Our preference is to get all of the traveling out of the way in one day but it may not be the best option in this case.
I know there is a luggage storage option that will allow us to check bags for a few hours but we would still have to carry fairly heavy backpacks (professional camera equipment) around with us because we do not store that.

I'm not an expert but have heard that EasyJet does not participate with luggage transfers from other lines. Have you googled their website to make sure this is possible? Also have you double checked their luggage size and weight requirements - nothing like for full price transatlantic flights.
EasyJet allows ONE piece of cabin luggage (50X40X20cm - including wheels and handle) - anything larger goes in the hold. Note this is NOT one bag and one "personal item" it is ONE bag including a purse, briefcase or camera bag. If you have a lot of camera equipment you want to take on the plane with you - you may want to consider a different airline that allows you to take more on the plane with you.

I did research both. Gatwick Connect advertises they work with both Virgin and EasyJet.
I am aware of the one checked bag and one small carry on for EasyJet as well. We have to pay extra to check on Easy which I will do in advance when we purchase tickets.

nyt is talking about interlining but you are asking about Gatwick Connect which is a different animal.
I haven't used them so don't know how good they are. Can't help you there. I personally would not worry about the gear - the Left Luggage is secure.
