Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Fuessen - Last Bus

I am planning to use my Bayern ticket and depart GaP by last bus at 1645 and reach Echelsbacher Brücke at 1801. Then change to bus 73 from Echelsbacher Brücke depart 1808 and reach Fuessen 1859.

Any idea if using Bayern ticket to board a bus is base on first come first basis or I can make booking in major towns like Nuremberg and Munich.

I worry I will get stranded in GaP...

Thanks.

Any reason why you pick this round-about route?
There are trains from Fuessen to Reutte, and from Reuitte it is a short bus ride (or cab) to Fuessen. Take a look at www.bahn.de, enter "local transportation only"; depart Garmisch Partenkirchen; Arrival Fuessen; via Reutte/Tirol. You can use Bayern ticket.

Last seen, Echelsberger Bruecke has no covered bus stop. So, if it rains ?????

Hi tropica,

In case you decide to take the bus as you post, there is no way you can reserve a seat on the bus. Yes, it is first board, first to sit.

Have fun as you plan!

These buses are usually never crowded and no European would have the idea to try to book seats there.
Trains from Garmisch to Reutte about every hour (1 hr journey). The Bayern ticket is valid, although the trains run through Austria.

Last connection via Reutte - bus - Füssen: Garmisch dp 16.04 (1 1/2 hrs journey). Later in the day, you may take a train up to Vils and go on from there by taxi (about 10 min ride) (Garmisch dp 18.04 and 20.06)

Hi, all. Thanks for the advises. Since no booking is allowed with Bayern tic, I will consider other routes.

treplow, thanks for reminding me the brucke is not a bus stop. I would not want to be drenched in rain. I thought this was the shortest route to the castle with less change and I want to start an early day in Hohenschwangau.

Hi Tropica -

In 2007 my husband & I took the bus from G-P to Hohenschwangau. We took the 9606 which left at 13:05, and turned out to be the school bus! It was a great ride, none-the-less.

If you're interested, you can read about our bus trip in my trip report - scroll down to Day 15.

Hi Robyn, such a detailed and adventurous trip you had there. I enjoy reading it! How many hours do you think is required to walk from hauptbahnof area to Kaiserburg Castle in Nuremberg?

Hey tropica, thanks for reading my trip report. I had to get my journal out from the trip to look over my notes from Nuremberg. We stayed a total of 5 hours in the city, a whistle stop on our way between Bamberg and Munich. We stopped to see a lot of things walking from the hauptbahnhof to the castle, but I can't imagine it would take any more than 15-30 minutes to walk directly there (depending on your pace).
