The métro is the quickest way:

Take a #4 line train bound for "porte d'orléans" for one stop to "gare de l'est", there change to a #7 line train bound for "mairie d'Ivry" ride seven stops to "palais royal / musée du Louvre". This may be slightly quicker than the itinerary suggested by Bob

If you have no luggage, you may want to walk from gare du nord to gare de l'est (about 400 yards) and save the wait and hassle of changing lines.

You will find the Paris public transport authority's website at: http://www.ratp.fr

Enjoy your trip

Phil
