Gap of Dunloe--Deros Tours

Can someone who has taken a tour through the Gap of Dunloe tell me what sort of food is available at Lord Brendan's Cottage? If just snacks, we will want to bring along a picnic of sorts, but if a more complete menu is available we won't want to tote food along with us.

I e-mailed Deros but there was some sort of disconnect and that question didn't get answered.

There is a full lunch menu available at both Kate Kerney's cottage and Lord Brendans cottage, no need to bring food. If you are up to it, walk the Gap, I have done it twice and it is a lovely day if the weather is nice. The boat ride at the end of the walk is also very nice. Have fun

And while I have your attention, Johnod, how far is the hike? About 6 miles I believe I have read. Perhaps that's a wee bit farther than I have legs for....so we will probably hire a jaunting cart. We'll see.

You could consider cycling - that's a good way to see the beautiful countryside of Western Ireland. You can hire a bike in Killarney, take a boat trip (with your bikes) across the lake then the pleasant ride back to Killarney. The third photo on this page

show the busy traffic in the Gap of Dunloe area.

It is about six or 7 miles, halfway up and halfway down. Not very difficult but you be you own judge, Even with the cart you have to get out and walk on the steepist part as the pony cannot pull it, Have fun

Jeremy, about the only bike riding I am capable of is my 30 minutes on the stationary bike every evening! And we have already booked the Deros tour, but thanks for the suggestion.

Johnod, we will see how I (just turning 65 next month) feel when we get to the Gap. Weighing that hike against saving 80 euros, and the "romance" of the jaunting car, etc. I do know about the occasional walk even with the car, and think I can handle that! Thanks for the info!
