Since when do most airlines let you have anything to say about what seats you get? We're lucky if we get two together or two on the side with only two instead of two on a side with three.

Hi Earl, On many airlines you can choose your seats on-line. I booked my sister's reservations on-line and did not have an option at first to choose her seats. However after I found out what seats she had been assigned, I was able to look on-line at what seats were still avalible. I then phoned the airline and said I want to pick any of these seats in this range - they did it no problem. I think the airlines do want us to be happy in our seat selection rather than moving all around after boarding.

If you have any status with just about any airline you could pick any seat. With AA I could pick exit row seats if they are available during reservations.
When a status holder signs in on AA.com s/he gets to see a whole different seat map than your average pax. To the average pax it will seem like exit row and some prefered front row seats are taken, to a status holder the ones that are still available will show up as available.

This is a great site. I just read about it in Conde Nast Traveler.

When I only put a reservation on hold last year with United they were able to get the seat numbers at that time too.

I also have checked out this sight to examine the 747 we will be flying to Paris in April.

We got our flight through expedia, and our itinerary says we get our seat assignments at check-in. Is there anyway we could call BA and get our seats assigned now? Then again, there is still a chance that our seats will be re-assigned at ckeck-in anyway! Still, if we can get our seats assigned now I would be feel better about the flight. I am a nervous flyer and like to know everything that I can about the flight in advance. It makes me less anxious.

TIA

ilovelabs2003 -- You have nothing to lose by calling BA to try to get the seats assigned now and that is what I would do. Carriers retain a certain percentage of seats to assign at check-in so it's possible that you won't be able to get the seats locked in. But it's worth a shot.
