Fun in London

Other than shopping (even though I'm a shopaholic), what is there to do in London!?

I've been to London 4 times in the past 3 years, and only spent 5 minutes in Harrods - no other stores! London has world class museums and art galleries, gorgeous parks, fantastic walks through history, best theatre in the world (sorry,New Yorkers). If you are mainly interest in shopping, stay in the U.S. - there are no bargains in London!

You must be joking!! What is there to do in London other than shop?

Do yourself a favor. Get a guidebook and read it. Get a map, too, if you know how to read one.

Do you think millions of people travel to London every year just to shop?

This is the kind of post that makes Americans look like total idiots in the world's eye.

Oh God, what a question! I have been to London 8 times and I still haven't done all that I wanted to do, seen everything!
I guess you just have to like/love the city and want to see and do everything that you can to experience everything there!
Museums - small weird ones, big modern ones, homes turned into nice ones, vast famous old ones.
Gardens/Parks-some of the most beautiful ones in the world, intersting ones, never know what you will see in them ones, boats in them, horses in them, interesting people in them.
Houses/neighborhoods-the architecture, the very oldness of the homes, the streets that are in every book that you read as a child, the buildings that you read about in school, the clock that you see everywhere all the time.
The Thames-ride on it, look at it, cross it.
The West End-walk it,see it, eat in it, go to the theatre, see the Opera,a ballet,go to the cinema, have a cocktail instead of a bag of popcorn.
Antiques-Portabello Road,Bermondsy,Camden,Kings Road,Greys Market,Edgeware Road.
Notting Hill,Belgravia,So Kensington,Knightsbridge,Chelsea,Soho,-----
Westminster Abbey,Buckingham Palace,St Pauls, Big Ben(that big clock),Parliament.
this is just a small list of things to do when you are not shopping~
Well, I'm sorry you don't like the way I like to learn information about places BY LISTENING TO OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS! I'm not really an angry person but you're starting to get on my nerves. If you have nothing better to do but pester people looking for help, you need to get a life and stick with your day job.

Aubrey, Buckingham Palace only has tours for a few weeks in August, when the Queen is away. But if you are into castles, Windsor Castle is a great day trip from London, also Hampton Court Palace ( you can take a boat trip there). Also, at 15 I think you would enjoy the British Museum. At 15 my parents took me all over Italy. Of course I was bored with some of it, but picked up enough "culture" to really want to see more of it in later years. Go with a good attitude, and you won't be sorry!

Kate,
8 times to London and you have not seen all you want to see??? Either you walk very slowly or get up at noon. 3 maybe 4 days max in London and it is time to head to the real Europe, Germany or France....

How nice of you to take such interest,"bored".
There is always something that I want to see and haven't,we have friends in London and often go out of town with them when we are visiting.
Actually, people that live in London, will tell you that they haven't seen everything in the town,as I haven't seen every single thing in my town,New York.
And since you seem to take such an interest, we also go to Paris every year.
Hi Aubrey, we are Americans living in England (about 2 hrs out of London). At 15 yrs old, you will find lots of fun things to do there! Shopping is fun, but things are more expensive in the UK. If you like antiques- try the Portobello Market- they have everything from jewelry to stained glass to lace to ship paraphenalia. The museums are fantastic, esp. British Museum. Be sure to see the Tower. Most of all, we enjoy people watching- London is such an nternational city! Check out the street performers in Covent Garden. Enjoy your stay!Cheers.
