I really hope I don't seem foolish asking this, but I can't figure this out. I am a 20 year old on my first trip to Europe, and I will be flying alone into CDG terminal 1 via US Airways. I need to get over to terminal 2 to catch a connecting flight. I have found maps, etc, but exactly how do I get there? Are there shuttles, or what? I feel silly asking this but I am nervous since I'll be alone and I know only a little french.

Kate, just like in any airport, there are signs and arrows. Don't fret, the staff at CDG speaks English and will assist you. You will have plenty of time to make your connecting flight. I can understand your frustration, when I landed in O'Hare a couple of months ago, besides switching terminals, I had to take a tram between terminals. It really wasn't a big deal. Actually even before you land in CDG, you will be informed what gate your connecting flight departs from.

There is a shuttle between the two terminals. There are signs (with English!) on the bottom floor, but the best thing to do is to keep asking everyone on your way through the system--the flight attendant as you leave, anyone at a desk near your gate, etc., where the shuttle to Terminal 2 is. There's usually a stairway from your satelite (satelites are these mini-hubs at CDG for about 3-6 gates) down to a shuttle stop. The only people who aren't real helpful are the passport control people, but looking rather forbiding is part of their job. Don't take it personally!

Shuttles are free, red and on the shopping level (bottom floor). Shuttle is "navette" in French, but there should be English signs also.

Check out the map when you enter the terminal. We decided it wasted time to find and wait for the shuttle--walking was actually a lot quicker.

Kate,<BR><BR>Terminal 1 and 2 are quite far from each other. It's not a difficult transfer, but I would not attempt it with less than 90 minutes between flights.<BR><BR>You need to go through immigration, then take a white and yellow ADP shuttle bus (line 1). It leaves from the lower level of terminal 1 (shopping concourse). Follow the signs or ask at an information counter.<BR><BR>You don't mention where your connecting flight is going to or which airline it is on. This is important, as "terminal" 2 is actually a series of terminals called "halls", which have letters (A through D and F). You need to know which hall your flight is leaving from in order to get off at the correct shuttle bus stop. Kate: When you get through Customs, unless they've rearranged the airport in the lat few weeks, you'll exit right in front of the Information Desk at Gate 34. Check there, but I'm also pretty confident the shuttle to CDG 2 leaves from right across the street at Gate 34 (there's a little enclosed ticket area where you buy your ticket first). The come every 15-20 minutes. Don't panick.

My goodness, Kate!<BR><BR>When I scroll through all the responses I can't believe how much contradictory/wrong info you've received!<BR><BR>I stand by what I said in my post. I lived in Paris for over a year in 2000-1 and used CDG at least once a week the whole time. Sometimes I would park at terminal 1 but my return flight on another airline would land at terminal 2, so I definitely know how this works!<BR><BR>BTW the shuttle to terminal 2 leaves from the lower level as I said and it's FREE!<BR><BR>Andre

You're right, Andre, but twice from Terminal 1, USAir directed us to go straight from the satelite area down a staircase to a (waiting!) shuttle to Terminal 2. There were no glitches. We got to where we were supposed to be--no problem.<BR><BR>And you're also right, Andre about one other big fact---it's free. I've never needed a ticket, Kate, for all these "inside-CDG" shuttles. Just jump on.<BR><BR>The Air France shuttle to Orly requires a ticket.<BR><BR><BR> <BR><BR>

to all of you savvy ones out there ,re: CDG:Where is the ticket counter for the TGV? I need to change departure time on TGV for another day before I leave CDG upon arrival. I thought I read on another thread that I can't find that the station is in Term. 2. Any info will help!

The station is in Terminal 2, but I have bought tickets before at a desk like an information desk in Terminal 1.

Andre, I will have 3.5-4 hrs to get from terminal 1 to Hall D at terminal 2 for an Air France flight to Bordeaux. <BR><BR>I guess I am supposed to pick up the luggage from terminal 1 and lug it over to terminal 2 with me. I am sure I will have enough time to accomplish all this. <BR><BR>Thanks.

Kate,<BR><BR>You definitely have enough time to make your connection. <BR><BR>I checked the terminal maps again and it does seem that there is an "airside" shuttle from terminal 1 to 2. HOWEVER it will definitely NOT stop at hall 2D, as this is a domestic/EU-only terminal. You would have to get off at the 2B stop, go through immigration there and walk to 2D. My original suggestion is probably a bit easier.<BR><BR>Regarding, your luggage - this depends on whether US Airways and Air France have a "luggage interlining" agreement - I assume they do, but you might want to check with USAir. If the answer is yes, your luggage will be checked right through to Bordeaux - nothing to worry about in Paris.<BR><BR>Bon voyage!<BR>Andre

Kate, I suppose your travel arrangements are already made, but you should know there are several TGV trains to Bordeaux that leave directly from the train station within the airport (actually, also on terminal 2). It takes 3 1/2 hours)

CDG doesn't post departures until about 2 hours (more or less) before departure time, so it's a crapshoot getting to the correct gate (because gates and terminals can change). The shuttle buses run all the time, so you'll have no problem getting to Terminal 2 in a short amount of time. The bus makes several stops at Terminal 2 (each hall) so pick Hall D, then double check the monitors 2 hours before departure to make sure nothing's changed. You can always walk to the other Halls if the gate's changed.<BR><BR>That being said, if I'm changing planes, have just a small rollaboard and I've got lots of time, I choose to walk to the other terminal. After sitting on a plane for 10 hours, walking a mile seems like a luxury (I stop at the bathroom, stop and buy a coffee, go into a Relais and buy a paper or magazine, look at all the people I've never seen before, listen to the chatter of different languages, etc.). <BR><BR>Oh, and this weekend was juuuust dandy; I'm in Terminal 2A, decide to walk to 2F to get the RER (same station as the TGV), buy my ticket...and the wretched RER entrance is closed because of vandalism. So everyone has to go up 5 floors on the elevator to catch a bus to the old station at Terminal 9.
