From Lourdes to Mont saint Michel

Hello all. I hope you can give me some guidance.
We are going.to Spain on September. We are crossing to visit Lourdes .
From Lourdes we want to go to Mont Saint Michel.

1. What would be the fastest and practical way to go Mont Saint Michael? We have a car but would prefer not to drive the eight hours.

2. Any suggestions as to where to stay? We prefer cozy, adorable places.

Hope we receive many responses!

Thanks, Evelyn.

8 hours by car is it seems a few hours quicker than by train as the fastest train connections seems to go back thru Paris and then to Rennes and then by bus to Mont-Saint-Michel - quick search showed nothing less than 11 hours- check on France's new system of long-distance buses that may go a more direct route.

I would drive - you can go via La Rochelle, a three-star Michelin port town about half way I would guess (only a guess)- car seems the best solution here.

It's faster and easier, if you can call it that, to drive. Your other options are:

Night bus - 17 hours, 17 minutes - 80 euros
Fly to Pau, train to Rennes, bus - 10 hours, 44 mnutes, 500 euros
Train to Toulouse, fly to Rennes, train and bus - 9 hours 20 minutes - 200 euros
Train to Toulouse, fly to Nantes, train and bus - 9 hours 58 minutes - 200 euros
Train to Bordeaux, fly to Nantes, train and bus - 10 hours 5 minutes - 250 euros
Fly Tarbes to Orly, train and bus 0 9 hours 22 minutes - 250 euros
Train to Bordeaux, fly to Rennes, train and bus - 10 hours 57 minutes - 275 euros

And if you pick up a rental car in Spain and drop it in France, there goes another small fortune.

Mont St. Michel is a bit special, but I'm not sure that it is worth the trouble and expense of getting there from Lourdes - unless you have a special reason to make the journey.

8 hours is very optimistic, having done virtually the same "run" from our former village an hour SW of Toulouse by autoroute to Caen or Cherbourg.

The following shows two options, biggest bottleneck is getting around Bordeaux.

So, a long day or if you want to break the trip, we often stopped in the Loire Valley which was more than halfway, making day 2 an easy finish.

I do not care for Lourdes at all but realize for many people it is a special destination. The scenery in the immediate area is beautiful.
