i live in İstanbul and plan to make a trip with my wife and another couple to UK between 13th and 23rd of July 2009. Our intention is to stay 3 days in london, and then rent a car and drive to Scotland. The trip will be about 10 days. We plan to drop the car off in Edinburgh and fly back to istanbul. Can anybody suggest an itinerary after London , including 4 days stay in Scotland.

I think I'd like to know a little bit more about what interests you?
Why is this tagged Turkey when you're going to Scotland and England?
it's not. Are you getting cross-eyed?
I think that the first problem will be flying back to Istanbul from a Scottish Airport. Neither Glasgow nor Edinburgh have a flight except back via London.
You have nine nights in total and intend spending a total of seven of them in Scotland and London. It's totally pointless, as you will take 7or 8 hours on the road just to get direct. You have no time to see anything.
That's bit harsh, I think. Lots of people do much worse, and there's lots to see on the road north.
London-Warwick/Stratford/York/Northumberland coast/Edinburgh
Sorry if you thought my comment was too brusque, didn't mean to be. I meant to say that with the amount of time reserved for each end of the trip, two nights for the rest of England and the Borders seemed a little short.
If your time at either end is fixed, then maybe it might be better to catch the train from London to Scotland and save the driving strain. You'll gain time at either end and still see the countryside as you travel. As a driver, you won't be able to take much in. Alternatively, you could break the train journey overnight in York or Manchester.
It was tagged Turkey when I made the comment.
That said, I'd go from London to Edinburgh and skip the drive, then rent a car to go around Scotland.
Yes, I'd say spend something like 3 days in London, fly to Edinburgh, spend 3 days here, rent a car & drive round some of Scotland for 4 days, fly home via London (or Amsterdam, or Frankfurt).
Drive up via York
hit Fountains Abbey and drive thru the Yorkshire Dales - then via Hadrian's Wall
to the Scottish Borders region and sweet ruined abbeys like at Melrose, Jedburgh, etc.
and then onto Edinburgh
lots of nice countryside
