I will have to get from london city airport to heathrow airport for a flight connection. i only have 3 hours and 30 minutes (from 9h5 to 12h30) is it possible for me to rush to heathrow on time? I have never been to London and i'm terribly worried because I heard about the traffic jams in London. I will arrive in London on a Saturday morning, it seems to be a hard journey from london city airport to heathrow airport? Does anyone have some idea?

Is there a reason you've tagged this as 'Sweden'? You'll get a better response if you tag it as 'United Kingdom'.
I'm not an expert but London is a big busy city and Heathrow is a long way from the centre. I'd say it's probably unlikely, though you might just make it if you are very lucky. Can you rebook your flight from Heathrow to a later one?
First question - which Saturday, DLR / trains & Tube can be cancelled or delayed on weekends as they dig bits of the system up to repair it.
Second question - where are you arriving from as procedures for domestic flights are different from international flights
Third question - which terminal at LHR
Fourth question - how much luggage
Fifth question - is this a genuine connection or have you booked separate tickets for the flights to London City / from Heathrow
Sixth question - can you check in online.
As for "doing it" - on a normal day it takes about 90 minutes plus the time getting from plane to DLR station and Tube station to check-in / through security / to gate. Basically it's just about doable but it's not something I would want to do.
For information - take the DLR to Canning town, then Jubilee Line to Green Park then Piccadilly Line to Heathrow
It's slightly quicker if you organise a car service in advance - cost would be about £40
Looking at the London City Airport cite, I found the following link:
http://www.londoncityairport.com/ToAndFrom/BetweenAirports.aspx
Hope it helps you and sorry if you've already looked at it!
London City and Heathrow are about as far apart from each other as you can get. We live by London City and it takes us 2+ hours to get there using public transport.
If you count 2+ hours for transport across London, plus the time you need to be at Heathrow before your flight, plus the time to get your luggage/immigrations at City (should be quick but you never know) I dont think you can make this connection. If ANYTHING went wrong (tube down, tube closed for works on the weekend, traffic jam if you choose to do a cab, late flight...) you will never make the flight.
Some other considerations
- what terminal at Heathrow are you going to?
- what Saturday is it as tube lines/dlr go down for weekend works so you need to ensure the lines area open
- how much luggage do you have?
- is the time you give from the time you can leave City Airport or the time your flight is scheduled to land?
You may want to look into a transfer using a car service like www.justairports.com and they can likely give you an idea of how long it would take to drive on a Saturday morning.
In a nutshell - I would never do this connection, its just not enough time.
thanks everyone for your information
I am from Stockholm, Sweden. i will arrive at London city airport from Arlanda airport, on June 11th (Sartuday) This is the first time I am abroad and I am terribly worried. Maybe I just have a small bag, no suitcase or checked baggage. I can check in online and rush to terminal 3 of heathrow airport. The agency combine two seperate tickets from British airway and cathay pacific and they said I would have to pay 1000sek if I want to change to an earlier flight. That's really expensive. I'm totally confused
They havent announced closures for June yet so keep checking on this website for the DLR (which takes you from City to Bank station): http://www.dlrlondon.co.uk/planned-engineering-works/
If you really are going to attempt this I would check and see if a car services like www.justairports.com and see how long it would take. Definitely take carry on only and have your agent's phone number in case you miss the connection - I assume they will book you on a new flight if you miss it?
I looked at justairports and its about £40 to get from City to Heathrow but I have no idea how long the drive is on a Saturday.
Good luck!
PS - you only tag with as a Trip Report when you come back from a trip and want to give the forum tips etc on the trip you have taken.
Also, tag for the country you are visiting, not where you are from - so this should be tagged as United Kingdom, not Sweden.
Thank you very much. I'm just new to this forum so not sure about everything. Thank you for your information
Nguyen_Kimchung, good luck to you. Best to take the advice of people who know the area like jamikins. Please let us know how it all works out for you.
If you're planning to catch a Cathay flight, you really need to think again about that SEK 1000.
If you prebook a car from LCY to LHR it's going to cost you at least GBP50 (=SEK 500). But you've got no way of knowing whether the flight will arrive on time.
IF it arrives on time, and IF things go smoothly, you'll arive at Heathrow at 1100: just about enough time to check in for a 1230 flight. Any delays and there's a real risk you'll miss it - costing you hundreds of POUNDS.
Public transport across London on Saturdays means the near-certainty there'll be some problem making you take a diversion that'll stop you arriving anywhere in Heathrow before 1130 or later.
For an extra SEK 1000, I'd definitely change my flight into London to one that arrives at Heathrow.
For a change fee of £100 I'd make the change to a flight that arrives at LHR - as you don't have checked luggage it means you can stay airside and not have to go through immigration / customs etc but can just follow the signs to "Flight Connections" and let the people there deal with you.

Hej guys,
Thank you for your advise and information. I asked many car service and they told me that it's possible to travel from London city airport to Heathrow in one and a half hour. In case the flight to LC airport is delayed so that I am late for the Cathay flight, I'll be arranged another flight for free. Actually I am asking the agency to make a change but they say it will be difficult. I am so stupid
Definitely think again about making the connection. That Saturday is the day of the Queen's Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) so there will be major road closures in central London that day at about the time you will need to cross London.
Who told you that you would get on the next flight for free if you are a no-show? Your travel agent (wouldn't believe that.) Or the airline? If they say so I would ask several times and get it in writing.
Typically if you have different tickets and miss the ongoing flight you have to buy another ticket at the very high walk-up price.

I know it’s probably a bit late, but I wanted to offer Carbon Voyage as a suggestion for what you have been talking about. To be clear, I am currently working for them as an intern from Paris so apologies if this is advertising in bad taste. But you can use them to book and share taxi rides from airports or major train stations, you get a text from the taxi service once you book, and it is usually eco-friendly (like a Toyota Prius). I used them to get picked up from Heathrow and the driver was waiting for me when I came out the gate, even though my plane was late (no extra charge).
