From Krakow to Zakopane

Hello All,

My family will stay in Krakow for 5 nights/6 days in the coming sunner holidays.

Do you think it is worth to take a day-trip to go to the Zakopane?

Just want to hear your suggestions.

Thanks so much.

Gavin

I didn't care for Zakopane but lots of other people do like it. The wooden architecture was interesting but I hated the vendors selling cheap goods and the same cheese at stall after stall.

I could easily spend 6 days in Krakow.

My hostess in Krakow recommended the day trip, but, with 5 days in Krakow, I really did not have enough time. It takes some time to get there and back. I investigated going on a tour to reduce stress, but they need two people and I am only one. There was so much to do that I was not sorry I missed it.

You can also get to Zakopane by train but getting where you need to go after would have taken time and it would have been more strenuous. After visiting Auschwitz, the Salt Mine, the Castle and Cathedral--not to mention the walking tour I did--the last thing I needed was something else strenuous.

My blog on my days in Krakow is here:

I spent a couple of nights in Zakopane on the way to Slovakia. I really enjoyed getting up into the mountains and doing some hiking. I rather enjoyed the town, certainly there were plenty of souvenir sellers but they weren't pushy. I took the bus up.

I took a day trip by bus on my own from Krakow to Zakopane and enjoyed it.

I thought the town was interesting and as I recall, the ride thru' the mountains was quite scenic. Krakow was my only stop in Poland and I wanted to see a bit of the countryside so I was glad I went.

It's the type of trip that you can plan at the last minute so you don't need to plan in advance if you're undecided.
