I copied the following from the www.bahn.de website - a great site for rail schedules for all of Europe - easier i find than www.trenitalia.com which you could also use.
The best way to access the www.bahn.de site is to visit BETS' home page (www.budgeteuropetravel.com) and then on the home page click on "All European Rail Schedules" link and this instantly brings up the English schedule page of the www.bahn.de site, which you can alternatively find by wading thru the bahn site. The trenitalia site will give fares and ability to book tickets but for info on any European train schedule i use the German site.

To expand on our train options:
Avoid La Spezia connections. From there, it takes 3:10 to Milan, or the train goes back past Monterosso to Genova so you're backtracking.
Take only connections that go directly from Monterosso (or whichever is your town among the 5 "Cinque Terre") to Genova.
The quickest in the late morning you already know - it's the 10:55 that PalQ mentions, it requires only one change of trains, in Milan, and gets to Como at 15:05.
If you want to get there sooner, before lunch, there's a 07:36 Monterosso departure that gets to Como S.G. at 11:41. (Change at Rapallo, arr. 08:22 / dep. 08:35 and at Genova P.P., arr. 09:08 / dep. 09:19 and at Milan, arr. 10:50 / dep. 11:10).
If you want to avoid two of the changes in the previous connection while still getting to Como at 11:41, depart Monterosso at 06:55, it goes straight to Milan (arr. 09:55) but you have a long wait for the 11:10 departure. You may like to have 75 minutes in Milan, time to stroll the streets across from the piazza outside the station, lots of shops and restaurants and self-serves where you can have a good late breakfast.
If you want to get there later and quickly, without any change of trains, take the Monterosso departure at 12:55 that gets to Como at 17:05. The train is the EuroCity 176 Cisalpino, you need to reserve a seat in advance, but it's well worth it for such a spiffy direct service.
It sits in Milan from 15:50 to 16:25, time to go for a leg stretch and a bite to eat - no worries about your seat, you'll get it back, it's reserved. Hope you travel light, with just a modestly sized roll-away and a light bag maybe, otherwise this (and all other travel) would be a bother.
