Check if you can get supercheap tickets to the East Coast and then a good deal from NYC or Boston to Dublin. Last summer we somehow got a RT NYC to LA for $189. there seem to be some flights to Dublin for about $700 - but from NY.
That's the only thing I can think of that's obvious - and it sounds like it would only save you $100 per person (and not that if the flights don't connect well).

Kayak is a good choice for flight searches. Another one is momondo.com. (I heard about that one from a talk travel writer Arthur Frommer gave at a travel show.) Momondo seems to have more sources including budget airlines and also a good chart showing all the days of the month so you can see if another day would have a cheaper fare. Both have boxes to check "nearby airports" so you can see other LA area airports. Kayak also has email alerts you can set up to let you know when a fare comes down. On Kayak for random days in June I am seeing 1 stop about $1100 which is good but not great. Momondo had about the same. Seeing the choices and the price being the same you might prefer to go from LAX to London and then to Dublin, rather than from LAX to NY and then to Dublin (the flight NY to Dublin is too short to get much sleep).
