French Riveria

My friend and I are ditching our husbands to go from Milan to somewhere in the French Riveria. What is the best mode of transportation and where should be go if we only have 2 days?

Take the train.

For laying about in the sun, Cannes or Beaulieu-sur-Mer or St Tropez. For stuff to do, Nice.

Not an easy train journey - a bit slow, and on most trains you have to change at Genoa and/or Ventimiglia.
There are 2 direct trains from Milan to Nice, one at 0710 arriving 1151, another at 1510 arriving 1958.
No trains to St.Tropez, probably too far for you from Milan in 2 days.
Don't stay at Monaco unless you are mega rich. Villefranche is very nice about 10 minutes by cab from Nice, but Cannes probably offers you'll need.
Very scenic train ride - not too hard by car, freeways all the way, and a
car could be handy on the Riviera, if you can find somewhere to park it.

We just drove through Cannes on our way to Villefranche and I was not at all impressed with Cannes--Nice's waterfront was prettier. Villefranche is a cute little town with a beach. I wouldn't recommend our hotel but we did have one excellent and one good dinner in the town.

Nice's waterfront is prettier--BUT Cannes has a lovely sandy beach while the beach at Nice is pebbles, pebbles and more pebbles. So if you're a beach person.....

What about beaches at Antibes? I had read that they were sand. Is that correct? Are they beautiful?
