French day trip from Barcelona?
Hey everyone. My buddy is taking a 1 week trip to Barcelona with his girlfriend in October and are entertaining the idea of getting a peak of France. They are in their mid 20's, enjoy nightlife, interesting foods, architecture, and will just very excited to be flourishing in Europe for the 1st time. Can you recommend what you would consider an easy day trip in France? (By train) Especially someplace that will contrast Barcelona. Thanks

Visit Toulouse - which (along with Dijon) is our second favorite city in France (after Paris).
Depart Barcelona Sants at 10:24 and arrive in Toulouse at 13:31
Depart Toulouse at 20:23 and arrive in Barcelona at 23:26
This is the new TGV schedule for April. There might be more trains in the summer.
Perpignan is along this route and is 1 1/4 hrs closer to Barcelona than Toulouse - but I think Toulouse is much more interesting.

I would second Stu's suggestion. I think Couliore isn't that interesting without a car to see the surrounding area IMO. Another option would be to stop in Carcassonne-although I too prefer Toulouse. I suspect getting to Toulouse will be easier as well by train

Toulouse was also my first thought when I saw your question a few seconds ago. So much to see and do, and the food's great. Tell them not to rush around, but to take their time enjoying all that this lovely city has to offer. I have friends who live there and 2 day's wasn't enough for me when I visited them 2 years ago.
Looking forward to another of your photo trip reports sometime Tailsock. Done any travelling lately ?

Glad to hear the good news, Tailsock ! Congratulations on becoming parents, and best wishes to your baby girl.
Don't put off traveling because of having a young child... Once she's old enough to be a little more flexible on the food and management fronts and has a good sleeping schedule, it's a great time to travel. We have family members who have taken their toddlers on trips to Europe at 15 and 18 mths and said that it was relatively pain free.
I'll look out for your Lisbon and Madrid reports whenever you get to post them. I can imagine that time is hard to come by these days.
