I just won the Movenpick hotel - it seems a little out of the way but otherwise it got good reviews. I am staying for 3 nights and staying for 2 days. IS the location that out of the way? I got the room on Priceline.

I love the Moevenpick. It is a little walk, but not bad. It is right beside the Expo Hall. If you don't want to walk with your bags, a taxi is about 8€. My son always insists on walking, so I have only taken the taxi about 4 times. I have stayed at the Moevenpick probably 8-10 times. Priceline! But in September I did Priceline for the same area and I got the Maritim. It is a 4*, but nothing like the Moevenpick. The area is not filled with restaurants, but we found an Italian right beside the Expo Hall.
It's alright. Right by the fairground. A bit remote location, but not too bad.
The hotel is a modern and clean 3-star. A bit non-descript.
You can walk into the nice neighbourhood of the Westend at nights. Safe and a few good neighbourhood bistros about 15 min. by foot from the hotel. Such include
- Knoblauch, a cosy French inspired place at Staufenstr.

- or try luscious cakes at Cafe Laumer on Bockenheimer Landstr. in the afternoon.

Thank you both so much! I live in NYc so I love to walk but my dad is not as spry as he used to be. Is there a tram nearby?
I think there is a tram stop up at the main street. I have never taken it. The staff there at the desk are very friendly and can give you information. Also, breakfast is a little expensive-20€.
HSV the restaurants looks great! I got the rooms for $80 a nice on priceline.
What is the star rating on Priceline and which zone?
Moevenpick Hotel Frankfurt City West 4 Star
The rooms are adequately comfortable but I really didn't care much for the location. For your dad's sake, I would recommend using taxis because public transportation is quite a walk. Hotel breakfast for 20 euro is comparatively reasonable considering the good quality of their breakfast, but I suppose you can save money buy buying cereals/yoghurt & danish to eat in the room. Most of the taxi drivers are honest but last weekend I actually got a taxi driver who really milked it by driving the big roundabout way from the train station to the nearby Marriott. I ended up paying almost double than usual but it's still worth saving my sore feet.
Thanks DAX on the way back we need one night in Frankfurt would you suggest the airport or the west?
There are so many hotels to choose from in Frankfurt, especially in lovely neighborhoods, that there is not really a good reason to stay either next to the airport which is a dead zone or over next to the convention center area.
Look at the Westend, Bornheim or Sachsenhausen areas. Try: Alexander am Zoo, Westin, Maingau Hotel, Robert Mayer Art Hotel, Hotel Goelz, Hotel am Berg, or the Hilton.
Mainhattengirl (great name) thanks so much - I do priceline because it is so cheap but I will look at your choices.
I agree with Mainhattengirl, do avoid staying at the airport even for an overnight stay. If you have a choice in the Hauptbahnhof area, you should consider the Marriott which is in the same general area as Moevenpick but with a better location. The Marriott is practically across the street from an U bahn station, and within an easy walk to the local bakeries, small shops, cafes & restaurants in the center of Bockenheim which is filled with students. It's a pleasant walk along the Goethe university campus to reach the Bockenheim oldtown behind the hotel. It gives a contrast to the sterile convention center atmosphere.
Another Frankfurt hotel where I get the same low rate as the Marriott is the NH hotel on Vibelerstr (direct airport S bahn to the Konstablerwache station). It allows me easy access to the foodie street Fressgasse. They even have a morning/day rate up to 12 hours for 50 euro (not advertised, but available upon request/call in person). It is more in the heart of Frankfurt retail commerce plus I prefer the Hauptwache area over the Hauptbahnhof area. There are a couple of good Italian restaurants in the area that I always go to.
Now I get the Mainhattengirl! The MArriot was in an awful location but they were very nice. We went to the train station for snacks!
Frankfurt is nicknamed "Mainhattan" due to its location on the river Main and its skyscrapers. Another nickname is "Bankfurt"...
I meant the Movenpick - the Marriot was a much better location
