Frankfurt airport to Strasbourg, Lufthansa bus?
Has anyone taken the Lufthansa bus from Frankfurt airport to Strasbourg? Would this be a better option instead of the train which will involve 1-2 changes.

I have never taken it but I have considered it - our plans changed.
I pretty much decided that since Lufthansa actually lists the bus connection, it was going to be better than other options.
Look at it this way - if it was easier to take the train, would Lufthansa be successful in selling this as a routing to Strasbourg?

Yes Aramis - It does look like a good option as we will be coming off a 23 hour flight and not having to get on and off a train a couple of times is tempting.
It was only by chance I came across it, most talk seems to be about going by train

Hi aussie_10 - I've taken the Lufthansa bus in the other direction, from Strasbourg to Frankfurt Flughafen and it was a snap. I recommend it!
I took a bus that left Strasbourg very early in the morning so I was groggy (much like you might be after your 23 hour flight!), I didn't get any sleep the night before, and it was really nice to be able to get on the bus and not worry about my stop. I knew they would kick me off at the airport! Very stress-free and definitely easier than changing trains.

Hi LunaBella
Thanks for your imput. It is very tempting to take the bus not worry about bags and then relax until Strasbourg.
Our flight would land at 6am if on time and the bus departs at 8.30. The only problem would be that I think you would have to purchase the bus ticket ahead like a flight and if our flight was delayed I don't know how that would work. Not really easy to ask questions about it.
The advantage of the train is that I could just purchase the ticket once landed and bags are collected. But then there are the 2 changes and hanging around train stations when tired.
Ah decisions!
klondiketoo if you go to the Lufthansa site there is links

In looking at the Lufthansa bus site, it says this:
"Passengers must travel as originally booked and then travel and complete their trip as per this reservation." So I would think if your flight is late and you had pre-booked a ticket, you would be out of luck.
However, it also says that if the bus isn't full you can buy a ticket from the driver. Here's the direct quote: "Please note that, as for a flight, you need both a ticket and a reservation in advance for the Airport Bus. Passengers without reservations and tickets can only be carried if seats are still available at the last minute. In this case tickets for the Airport Bus can be purchased from the bus driver."
Given the fact that the cost appears to be approximately the same for either option, I think what I would do is print out the schedules and locations for both the train and bus, and then play it by ear once you land (and be sure to have euros ready in case that's all the bus will accept). Also it appears that there's a train that leaves the airport around 8 on the day I looked at (without knowing your dates), and you'd only have to transfer once in Karlsruhe, so not that big of a deal. Unless of course there's some other piece to the puzzle, like for example if you were staying at the Hilton Hotel where the bus stops or something.
Either way good luck and have fun in Strasbourg, I really enjoyed my time there!

Here's the link I found. We plan to use this service from Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg and back on our trip in September.

Thanks LunaBella for your reply and bettyk for your link.
Yes I think I will not book the bus ahead and play it by ear. Some of the trains had 1 or 2 changes. We will actually be catching a further train on to Colmar where we pick up a car and returning to Strasbourg later in the week. So it will be a big day. But fun, we will be in France!
